The only problem I had was just that they can deliver any time between 8am-11am and I'm either asleep or gone so just use parcel motel otherwise its a 40+ min walk each way to the sorting office to collect it. Not a problem with the delivery but putting the damn place out the tuam road in Galway is ridiculous

Our postman used to push packages in throught the top of the bathroom window, which we left open for the cat to get in and out.

So ensuring that the toilet lid was down bacame a part of our pre-departure ritual, like checking the oven was off and so on.

Ok I understand, but you have to realise that the likes of Parcel Motel are just starting up so they cannot be expected to be on everyone's doorstep.

The big question is why does the likes of PM have a business opportunity at all? If An Post worked it would be a no no.

People like parcel motel because they can pick up a parcel whenever they want. An post cant really be expected to deliver like that because of various times of people working but they should have some sort of set up where you can collect your packages if you aren't in without spending 2 hours trying to get it. They could send a text saying "You will be receiving a package at around Xam/pm tomorrow" and if they fail to deliver you get sent a text giving you a pin number and locker number. Pretty much do exactly what parcel motel does with the bonus of attempting to deliver.

I would say from personal experience (others might have a better postal service) that An Post DO NOT attempt to deliver, but rather leave it to the recipient to collect, at a time of An Post's choosing. The other main concern is cost. A PM collection is invariably 200% cheaper than An Post ( am using typical amazon delivery charges here)

I get a lot of little parcels in the door but a lot of them haven't arrived or are weeks late, it's getting ridiculous, I sent off a complaint to An Post and heard asolutely nothing back.

Has anyone noticed lately that An Post do not attempt to deliver parcels? They just shove the collection info through your letter box and drive off. No knock, no doorbell. On previous attempts, they have lied on their delivery times also, stating they attempted to deliver at a time about 1 hour before they actually did.

It has happened again to me today, and its getting irritating. I now have to go to the local sorting office to collect it, defeating the whole aspect of them actually delivering the damn item in the first place.

It's happened to me once or twice, one example I can think of I was standing in the kitchen chatting on the phone and could actually see the fella walk up and put the thing in the door and walk off, ran after him and he got a bit embarrassed, claimed he'd rang the doorbell and no answer, I told him I was 10 feet from the door, he got redfaced and muttered and went to his van and got my package, more often than not they knock though.

At least you got the delivery notice.
In my case, they just decided not to delivery the item and no Delivery notice was left.

As a result, item was returned to sender, who had lost it....

Anyway, just another oppinion of the "excellent Service" provided by anPost Staff.

She was speaking to me losing the rag until I informed her I attempted delivery at whatever time , "oh I was probably in the shower" .
Sounds like things were about to get kinky..

Jeez all the good guys must be working for An Post here in cork,

in my previous address both our postman AND parcel delivery man were lovely,

now in our new address both are even nicer and more helpful,

as for our parcels, i bought lots of christmas presents on Amazon this year, An post delivered two days ahead of estimated delivery dates each time,

everyone has a bad story, so here is mine:

the first delivery of three, i was home and he knocked and rang the door bell, and waited for me to answer, i told him i would have another parcel due monday, but may not be there for it and he asked if i wanted him to come back later in the day on his way back instead as he would be the one delivering it, i told him i couldn't guarantee i would be there, so he asked me was it something he could leave with a nominated neighbour or outside? i told him no, there were books in there so i didn't want to take the risk, so he asked me did i want him to leave it in the depot monday so i could collect it at a time that suited me rather than waiting for him to come back from his rounds and i thought this would be my best option and agreed.

so to my surprise on friday afternoon there was another knock on the door, same An Post worker, he told me he spotted my name and address on the parcel and knew i wasn't going to be there monday, so brought it with him to chance that i would be there on the Friday.

he was doing his best to help me, as he said "with Christmas so close i know people are anxious that parcels arrive" and i doubt i am the only person who he is doing this for, i tried offering him a tub of chocolates as a thank you and he refused citing it was his job and he was happy to do it.

they don't get enough credit in my opinion for the job they do.

Contact us (An Post) has been swirling for fifteen minutes during which time other websites have been opening without problem. Seems like they don't want to hear from their customers.

I remember a while back i was waiting on a parcel so I kept watch for the postman to come with it. I seen the van pull up so I opened the door. Postman walks up and just hands me the while you were out slip. Im like but I am not out where is my parcel? He said oh its at the depot!! I was furious and had to go to the depot to get it. Went down and complained the guy at the counter went oh thats such and suches route and just left it at that. Seems they know this guy doesn't bother and lets him at it.

As far as I know, the postmen are paid to deliver a route, so the way they see it, the sooner they finish the better and they can head off.

Cushty number. I made a complaint once and was told they are contractors and pretty much foot loose and fancy free to do what they like. In my case I was complaining that the package wasn't at the sorting office. The postman didn't bother coming back to the sorting office after his route was done and had taken the packages home with him in the van (take note, thieves) Wonder what the rates are...I could be in the wrong line of business here.
