    Hi All,

I am currently living in the UK and I am going to buy a car here. I have a full Irish licence, 7 years no claims bonus(from Ireland) and im 27.

I have priced around for Insurance but the best quote I can find is nearly £800 on a 1.9 Diesel Passsat. Does this sound very expensive to you guys??

Does anybody know of any Irish company that would Insure me or any UK company who would be able to offer me a better quote??

Also, would it help if I swapped my licence for a UK one?? Would the UK licence then say I only have a full licence for 1 year as opposed to 9 years like my Irish one. I need to buy the car quick so cant wait to get the UK licence but would be willing to get it after if I would save money.

    Thanks in advance folks!

An Irish company cannot offer you insurance on a UK taxed car. Try websites like Money Supermarket or Compare the Market. Direct Line is also another good insurance company but do not appear on comparison websites.

As an EU citizen, you are entitled to swap your Irish Licence for a UK one. Usually takes 10 days max to issue. (unlike here! ;))

Same boat. I have axa insurance but I can't carry it over to the UK.

Axa UK won't insure me unless I've been resident fro 3 year! European Union my hole!

800 for insurance from dodgy mc dodge insurance group that isn't even open on Saturday.

    Thats pricey alright....
When i came over to the UK 10+ years ago there were loads of insurers that would insure me with an Irish driving license.
I believe I used Elephant.co.uk for my first insurance.
I usually shop around and get a low quote and then go back to my insurer and the match it.
