Just wondering if anybody has any knowledge of the software market in Abu Dhabi at the moment? Any thriving sectors? Good pay? Comparable to here? Any info greatly appreciated

I hear the wages aren't very good unless you can find a very specialist role that is difficult to fill. I believe the UAE markets are filled up mainly with Indian graduates. However this is all second hand information from a friend who works there (in a specialist role).

    example :

7000 United Arab Emirates Dirham equals = 1400.80 Euro (tax free)

Yeah, that's a reasonable assessment of the situation. While I'm not in the UAE, I am in the Middle East, directly connected to the ICT industry, and it's the same everywhere.

That's a pretty low monthly pay for 2-5 years experience! I had heard secondhand that most jobs were filled with underpaid graduates. This seems to be true. I heard that a friend-of-a-friend is working there as an electronic engineer close to €100k/year. This seemed incredibly well paid. In light of what you're saying he must be in a very specialised role.

Yeah, I'd imagine that the job is some way related to the oil/gas industry.

I recently heard about an Oracle DBA job here (which I used to do in a former life and which still pays pretty decently in Dublin), offering 1,000 Euro a month. Yes, that's Euro. Same for any kind of tradesman (sparks, plumber, carpenter, bricklayer).
