One of the most recognisable reporters of the modern age Simon Hoggart of the Guardian/Observer, the Spectator, BBC, and others has died at 64 years from pancreatic cancer which he had carried for three years.

He was was best known for his Parliamentary sketches and also a regular on BBC radio 4 The News Quiz. He was a frequent author and pundit on Channel 4 news and sometime reporter for Dispatches on that channel.

I'll miss his affable wit and observation.

Very sad to see this on The Guardian this morning.

I've been reading his political articles since he wrote for Punch in the 1970's.His was always the first column I'd read in the Guardian
