    Hi All,

Need to get an engagement ring valued for insurance.

Can anyone explain the process to me? Is there any way to safeguard against a diamond being swapped etc.?

    Thanks

We got our ring valuation done with Carol Clarke in Dublin. Her website is http://www.dublinjewelleryvaluations.ie/.
We travelled up to do that as I didn't wish to send away the jewellery. She did it there on the spot, you can stay and observe the whole process or go get a coffee and comeback. The cost of valuation is a relatively flat fee and not a percentage as some jewellers, which in my personal opinion can only skew judgement. I think the trip is worth the peace of mind.

PS: call for an appointment and an estimate of the valuation.

    Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Ideally seeking a place in Galway but will go to Dublin if I have to.

we're located in Galway as well. I checked out all the local jewellers and they either only valued their own or as a percentage of value. We just drove up and did a day of shopping and lunch in Dublin.

Thanks, I actually have two places that will do it at a fixed price so that piece is ok. I just don't want to drop it off and pick it up. Maybe I'm being too cautious.

In that case just check out the reputation of the said merchants and go from there.

Thanks for the link,I hated the idea of dropping my rings off to be valued and having to leave them too.
