In most of Ireland, football refers to Gaelic.

Association Football is called Soccer here.

    I support Cork.

I'm always amused by the England-centred universe of the Soccer Sorrys.

Why should somebody from Ballynabogs support an English soccer club?

It takes all kinds I suppose.

If Irish soccer followers supported their local clubs instead of spending their money travelling to games in England and buying overpriced English club gear, we might have a few half-decent teams here.

I guess it depends on what you grow up with to some extent.

I started following Arsenal when I was eight. The reasons for this included the fact that they had a few irish players like Brady o'leary and Stapleton.

They were playing in the FA cup final that year (1979) against Man Utd. It was tradition in our house to watch the cup final...everything else would be put on hold that day to follow the build up and then the game itself.

The gunners, as they are known, went 2-0 up. I recall my grandad saying at that point that one more goal for arsenal would win it. Little did we know the drama that would unfold with utd pegging it back to 2-2. Very late on Arsenal scored their third goal thanks hugely to a great run by Brady. That was to prove the winner.

They then went a long time without winning anything again, but when you settle on a team, you're stuck with them!

The reason I don't follow local soccer is that it's crap.

I actually won a couple of tickets to the Palace v Norwich game that's on later. I'm in 2 minds as to whether to make the slog down to crowdon for what's likely to be a muckfest.

Give me a cold Friday night in Inchicore anyday - shamefully I only made it over to 2 games last year

Muckfest for sure the dregs of the prem, if Palace win that game they'll stay up.

At least Pats are sitting with a league trophy and a Cl place.

Football, isn't it? Hmm? Young boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts? Marvellous.

    I do miss that character!

What's it like being a Porto fan having won the Champions League then having to switch to Chelsea, having success there and then being told your an Inter fan. Enjoy another Champions League and then abruptly becoming a Real Madrid fan. And then getting to be a Chelsea fan again?

Satisfying, enjoy seeing Mourinho put his genius to work. Best manager whoever lived imo.

That doesn't really bother me tbh, one of the last seasons I had my season ticket for Richmond we were scraping around the edge of the relegation zone. I still went every week, even if it was just to pull my hair out at the disbelief that glen fitz was getting some sort of payment for what he was doing on the pitch. Some of the performances were poor that year but I have a connection with my local club so I was never going to stop going.

As for getting 3 trains to croydon to watch some premier league pish that I have zero connection to. . . .ANYBODY LOOKING FOR TICKETS?

Yeovil have no chance of staying in the champ, a backward club who are literally out of their league, can you imagine established clubs like Nottingham Forest travelling to their kip? Apparently the jacks in the players rooms wouldn't flush last weekend. Big joke of a club with a gobsh1te manager.

Why not Rangers? Makes me laugh when people say Celtic & then used to cheer the Scottish football team when they were playing in the 90's & 00's against England & 7 or 8 players were from Rangers.

Ha ha. Not sure about that as I was following them in the run up to that game. Even at the age of eight I didn't like utd!

To be perfectly honest this opinion drives me mad... And I know my post is now probably going to drag this thread down but I can't let this go.

    Soccer Sorrys?? Really?

I'm 36 years old, and have been supporting Manchester United since I got my first jersey, 7 or 8 match programmes and a mug on my 4th birthday from my Uncle who'd moved to Manchester, later to Sale in Cheshire and became a season ticket holder. Tom continued to send me boxes of gear, programmes, merchandise up and down until he died in 2000.
I love the club, I've followed their ups and downs for over 30 years. I try to get to OT as often as I can, but financial circumstances will dictate that.

I live in South Kildare (not Ballynabogs) , and since Kildare County and Kilkenny City folded, the closest LOI team to me is probably Shamrock Rovers. I've been to Tallaght a couple of times, as well as going to Dalymount. The LOI has no real appeal to me, but you won't hear me mouthing off about it!!!!!

Yes I call it football, and I refer to our national game as Gaelic, which I have also played at the highest level, but no longer play. I still play football with my local side in the Kildare League, and we've been very successful.

I watch all football and respect and admire a lot of teams, but the club I support is United, and always will be. If that makes me a "Soccer Sorry" in your, or anyone else's eyes, well then maybe I am one. My universe is not 'England Centred' - England happens to be the home country of a club that I have a serious emotional attachment to and I make no apologies for it to you or to anyone else.

I don't say a bad word against Liverpool or Chelsea or City or any other football team, or indeed against another sport that I may not have the same interest in.
You should give it a go.

I don't think even Jose would claim that,he'd say his friend Alex Ferguson has that title.

When Jose takes a team that has been struggling for 15 years, turns them into the number 1 team in England & keeps them there for 20 years winning leagues & cups galore, then maybe he can be called the greatest

Bandwagon jumpers aren't classed as proper supporters and deserve all the ridicule they get:pac:

I've supported United for about 36 years at this stage, wouldn't dream of jumping ship to another team just because I like the manager.

When Ferguson can make a team with limited resources like Porto win the Uefa Cup and then the champions league the following year then maybe he can be called the greatest.
