    still creeping up.

    top 400k-ish now.

    i don't want to say where i was 6 weeks ago :P

Hazard staying quiet would've been nice, but i can't complain with 66 (-4) this week.

How high do you think you can finish? I've moved up to 238,000 but an wondering how far more up I can actually go. I would suspect I've no chance of a top 15,000 finish and still no chance of winning PL. I'm about 110 points behind now but was 150 or so 4 weeks ago

You have every chance of a top 15000 place. Keep making solid decisions and let your final placing take care of itself.

    one step at a time.

my next aim is 250,000. then 100k. that's my minimum aim really. if I can get there, then 50k. then see what happens.

i didn't pick the greatest original team and I fúcked up my wildcard in GW3. only started recovering really about GW12 or so. bringing Suarez in on his return was my first decent decision of the season tbh.

getting the January WC right is vital for me.

+1 when all my friends were warning me about Suarez, getting him in on his return was a great move by me.
Pity I was not as clever with the other 14 positions:(

Wonder how well I can recover then from 800k odd, after being 200-300k odd around GW 8-9.

I just went into free fall when Suarez came back and didn't get him quick enough.

    :(

after Jan its very hard to gain places, unless you take serious risks and they pay off.

Most people who still play will end up with 7-8 of the same players, so you'll only gain very slightly each week.

I can't see myself getting much higher, its all downhill from here :/

I rose 100k places in the last 7 GWs last season and had I another 7 I believe I'd have gotten a good bit higher again. Granted I was in 158k moving to 58k and it did involve a lot of risks but I did what was needed.

oh it is possible, its just very hard done.

Its all about luck, and picking the right players at the right time. This is the only year i've done decently, and even then its a couple of players carrying my score.

Top 5% is my aim. well on track at the moment. would also like another 100+ score this season.

Really??? A zombie team could make that! In reality top 1% is the minimum you should be looking at. My aim every year is to make the top 0.3% which is top 10k. Anybody checking this forum on a daily basis should be able to make this with a bit of effort.

top 30,000 minimum? jesus that would be impressive.

I can't see how i'll move up, everyone above me has practically all the same players. I'm more interested in winning both the leagues i'm in, which im currently top of, just about.

Not really, most of the forum regulars here do it every season. Top 50k at the very least.

Yeah it takes a bit of getting used to, and the great thing is there's no set 'right' way to play the game. Some people can work transfers to their advantage, FutureGuy being the main advocate. I usually try and limit myself to only taking a hit when it's absolutely necessary, although this season I've taken way more than usual. Already taken 9 hits in 19 weeks for -36.

Couple of times they work, like last week dzeko and walcott for negredo and ramsey. A lot of times though I take a hit to get in someone I can't afford with one trsnsfer so I not alone range a bit but I downgrade.

I'm going to do a bit of maths later and see what my net points is from my transfer hits on the week I made them. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was positive.

Judging by the number of hits you took, you need a lot of time to do this:D
Last week -8 cost was 13 points for me, and left me with Gibbs who won't play. It all goes wrong sometimes.

Yeah, must do the same. Be interesting to see if it was not as bad as I thought

You posted your team somewhere i think, in the Cup thread i guess...
Still doing fine with all those hits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,305 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Prodston

Players I've brought in for hits this season:

    GW2: Coleman
GW6: (3 transfers for -4) Ozil, Suarez, Rooney
    GW7: Lukaku
    GW8: Ravel
    GW10: Aguero + Terry (-8)
    GW14: Gerrard
GW17: Coutinho (Howson out and didn't play)
    GW19: Walcott

9 hits this season and anyone would be hard pressed to tell me that the majority of those hits weren't the right transfers.

Gerrard got injured the following GW, Couts was a hazy morning mistake and Terry made sense at the time. Ravel is probably the only one that was poor and I still have price rises out of him.

Haha I posted my opponent's team. Naturally my team was easily enough found from there. Thanks. I do get carried away with myself with transfer hits, but at the same time I try to do them only where I've calculated the probability of a net success in my favour. Doesn't always work out as I calculated though.

No way am I posting my list. A simple net figure will suffice to spare my blushes.

I did the calculations there, and it is similar enough to what I thought. I've taken a whopping 68 points in deductions over a course of 19 gameweeks. When you remove the 1st week where you can't take a hit, and wildcard week where the same applies, that averages at exactly 1 points hit every week.

FPL suicide you might say.......but actually not so much. When the accumulated points deductions are added to the points I would have gotten anyway (the transferred out players or where those players did not play, the substitute that would have come in) this total comes in 10 points less than the total of the players I brought in on these respective gameweeks (again on the rare occasions I transferred players in and they didn't play, I've taken the points I got from the resulting substitute)

Obviously I appreciate this doesn't tell the full tale for both pros and cons. On the plus side, many of those transfers I brought in were captained that week (including Suarez and Aguero on bumper weeks) and I haven't counted the double points for these players as the stats just get way messier. On the negative, many of the net successes revolved more around 1 of the 2 players brought in so in some cases that gain could have been done without the need for a hit. But sure your total score reflects all that, plus what these transfers did in the weeks after their first week in, so those stats aren't entirely necessary.

Best week was GW 10 when I brought in Aguero and Nastasic vs Norwich for an accumulated 32 points, plus another 18 Aguero captain points. Biggest net loss was the most recent week when I took a 12 point hit, letting Koscielny and Lukaku leave on 17 points between the 2 of them while Yaya Toure came in and didn't even play. Dzeko was 1 of the 4 players in though as captain and if I hadn't brought him in 1 point Negredo was being captained.

In a nutshell, I don't think points hits are the enemy they frequently are made out to be on here, use them wisely and not for small transfers and they can be your best friend.

i've made 33 transfer so far, not sure how many hits that is, but i've easily lost 30-40 points on poorly times transfers.

I started fairly brightly and haven't done bad since, but my captains choices have been shocking.
That's where i've lost out big time this season. Following the crowd seems to be a success.

Could be any amount of hits from 16 to 32.
