That might solve our striker problem.

Was only talking to my cousin today about players "finishing their careers" at Celtic. Boyhood dream, playing for the atmosphere etc.. Any such player should fcuk right off as far as I'm concerned. Yes, we play in a poor league, but my attitude is don't come to Celtic as a pre-retirement option - and the club shouldn't entertain such players, no matter how big they once were.

Didn't see the game, another single goal win, another goal from midfield rather than from our strikers. How did we do overall? The stats suggest it was a fairy even affair, but stats don't always tell the full story of course.

I see Balde was on the bench again, unused. How did Stokes do? Given that the league is pretty much wrapped up, it's about time Lenny did some experimentation and played Balde for a full game.

We're 6/4 favs to sign Huddersfield's Paul Dixon, midfielder I think, looks like Joe might be on his way to Palace.

Commons was the only real spark. Brown was busy, Ledley too I guess. All other attackers were poor. I guess that's what happens when you go ahead after three minutes, and Inverness waited til late to really go for an equalizer so it was a pretty boring match. Never looked like conceding though. VvD (needless to say) and Ambrose were excellent.

Subs came far to late to contribute or prove anything. Really have to wonder what Lennon's hoping for here.

Lennon was trying to kill any momentum ICT were looking to build upon with the substitutions.

He isnt going to experiment/make wholesale changes much with players, which is evident from last season. Wholesale changes rarely clicked and it also boost the opposition's belief to get a result.

To repeat myself, Lennon needs to decide who should be sent out on loan and make it happen. Looking at the first team squad on the website Chalmers, Fraser, Toshney, Herron, George, Henderson, McGeouch, Atajic, Twardzik and from the u20/development squad list Findlay & Kidd could all be farmed out for first team football either in the premiership or championship in Scotland or league 1 or 2 in England. These guys have been in their comfort zone all through the academy under age sides & at youth level. Most if not all have played for the first team already, a few in high profile matches! Whats left for them to learn at u20 or in a development squad with limited fixtures? They need 1st team responsibility and not just a token 5 -10 minutes at Celtic Park when the game is over as a contest.

Kris Commons is to be offered a new 3 year contract. Lennon said before that he sees him joining the coaching staff at Celtic so I imagine he believes that Commons is well settled where he is.

    http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/celtic/258723-adam-matthews-expects-joe-ledley-to-sign-new-contract-at-celtic/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
"I think he will stay," Matthews said.

"I am hoping so. He is a great player for us and a good mate of mine so I am sure if they give him the right contract he will sign. He loves it here, his family loves it up here.

"I can't really ask him about it, not really. It is up to him and his family, whatever he thinks is right for him.

"But I hope he does stay and I'm sure Celtic fans hope he stays because he has been a great player for us."

Matthews has pretty much said this about 3 months ago. Maybe he sees something in his behaviour that makes him believe he's happy to stay but he hasnt talked to him about it so he's pretty much in the same both as the rest of us.

Tony Watt trained with the Celtic first team today ahead of tomorrow's match with Partick Thistle.

On Saturday Neil Lennon was quoted as suggesting that he felt it would be in the his best interests to return to Lierse after their winter break but it now seems that the hoops boss is close to changing his mind.

Watt was scheduled to return to Belgium next weekend but that looks unlikely as Lennon welcomes the 20-year-old back into the Celtic fold.

Despite various inaccurate claims about Watt's training habits his dedication has been highlighted by his appearance today.

Whether he will be eligible to be involved tomorrow against Thistle remains to be seen with the registration department of the SFA still containing members of staff who were involved in the Jorge Cadette incident in 1995.

Lennon has gone on record with his desire to add a proven goalscorer to his squad with Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde yet to make their mark on the team.

Watt is on holiday back in Scotland whilst the Belgian League is on a 3 week break. I'd say its nothing more than an assessment of the player or him looking to maintain his fitness for their mini preseason before resuming the season

I'd be very disappointed if he's recalled, he's clearly more to learn by staying out on loan and making himself a regular under Menzo.

Despite Lennons cribbing about a thin squad and several injuries, he has more than enough talent at his disposal and a good amount of it wasting away on the bench and in development squads to win games and win them well without recalling a squad player thats actually getting a real taste of first team football/expectations and what is like outside the cushy confines of Lennoxtown.

Lenny has got a lot of serious thinking ahead of him in the next few days,I'd let Pukki,Balde,McGeough and a couple of others go out on loan,Bangura has also got to go,permanently I hope.
A few odd adjustments for the CL is a must though, our team isn't good enough for it yet.

I wouldnt mind getting watt back to be honest.. he cant do much worse than our other forwards are at present. we need to rebuild the squad from midfield up (with exception to the likes of commons, and broony) and to do that we need to spend money. Money that is very unlikely to be spent in January, if at all. I've already accepted that Ledley is going and based on his current form i couldnt care less what happens to samaras.

1-0 up on Partick Thistle at the moment courtesy of a first half strike from Ledley. Partick playing well, proving difficult to break down. Stokes and Samaras just on for Pukki and Mulgrew. We seriously need a striker in the window.

Matthews clears off the line. Poor defending from Celtic, should really been 1-1.

Its because Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the likes of dundalk/Aberdeen wish they could even fill a back page about anything

Celtic manager Neil Lennon says he would be interested in Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher - at the right price.
"(He's) a very expensive player, (it's) just speculation."

Lennon added: "I can't say any more than that but he's a player most teams in Britain would like."

Fletcher goes into the same category as Finnbogason, expensive in terms of fee and wages and if he was available, there would be a queue to sign him.

Celtic's £1m signing target Mahmoud Hassan says it would be "a dream" to join the club from Al Ahly and feature in next season's Champions League. (Record)

Havent seen much of this lad, anyone see him play?

Celtic may be priced out of a move for Heerenveen striker Alfred Finnbogason after the Dutch club valued the marksman at more than £8m. (Mail)

Some amount of clubs interested in him now though, I'm sure wages is the real issue.

    Spot on, especially this bit:
That is, they must find a top-class striker who is willing to play in a mediocre league and who has not been seduced by a club in Spain, England, Italy, Germany or France. He must be willing to work for a top salary of £25,000 a week, though he could earn that at a Championship club with the Premier League in their sights.

Of course, it's much easier to just blame the board for not spending.
