    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to link my Ariva 250 to an old slingbox I have at home for remote viewing. I have picture and sound but I can't get the slingbox web based remote to work.

Slingbox have only listed the Ariva 220 in the configuration menu, has anyone successfully used a slingbox with the 250?

    Thanks

Got an Ariva 252 today to replace a sky box. Apart from the lack of epg I'm pretty happy with it. If I connect a hdd can I pause and rewind live tv?

edit: Also can you create lists of channels by type e.g. entertainment , movies, etc.? Right now they're separated by which satellite they're coming from which isn't useful to me.

    Yes you can:)

BTW 252 thread here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=87869158 best to ask there with any further queries so as not to confuse this thread.

    Hi.

I downloaded the editor from the Ferguson site in order to edit channel lists and i uploaded an abs channel list that was uploaded here previously.

The favourite lists loaded and when i went to enter one of the favourite lists the software crashed. Any solutions?

its a null modem job with the eprom and boot loader from the serial port - you will see many posts referring to it from previous pages

when my box started crashing people said that it was rare and am i sure i didnt do something strange and now its constant stories of these boxs crashing

mine is out of warranty and to pay postage to send it back to be re flashed does not seem worth it

So a USB to RS232 cable is required? Grand job.

Tipp, where on the Ferguson site can you download the editor? I had a look and can't seem to find it. No doubt when you tell me, it will be as obvious as the nose on my face.

I downloaded the editor and created a dumpfile on a USB key. I removed the USB key from the box and inserted it into the laptop.

When I ran Ariva editor I noticed that there were unprintable characters in the name as well as RTE, BBC etc. I did a couple of small changes and saved to dumpfile2.abs

When I put the USB key back in the box and went into upgrade mode, I selected dumpfile2.abs and go.

Now I have a blank screen with No HDMI signal so therefore no channels. There is no response to any key press I do on the remote. I have tried power off/power on but it made no difference.

What has gone wrong with what I did and how do I revert to the original dumpfile list?

    Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean about ash on the front of the box. Do you mean the digital display? If so, then this says "ON".

I wasn't sure what a null modem is so I looked it up. How do I use one of these to reboot the box?

thats a new one it seems to have frozen i assume you tried using controls on the box aswell.

Download the phone app and give that a try too.

Sounds like the dumped abs file got corrupted. Maybe memory stick taken out too quick.

Hi, I purchased a 250 recently along with an external hard drive that is powered from the USB lead.
I cannot record with this method, the manual says I need to use an external power supply for an external hard drive.
Do I have to buy a hard drive with an external power supply or is there some cable I can used to power by hard drive through the USB. I have a USB charger that plugs into a socket. Is there a USB cable that can go into this and also the hard drive and the 250 box.

I know of some makes like verbatim that work without an external power supply. What make and size is the hard drive you are trying to use ?

    Transcend 1TB

Ok if you partition it to 500gb or less you may find it works . The Ariva does not seem to work well with drives bigger than 500gb

So I can use the external drive without a separate power supply, at the moment it doesn't recognize that it is connected.

    Have you partitioned it ?

Yes, partitioned the drive and formatted on a PC, could only get it to work on the front USB and when formatted on the Ferguson box.
Can do an instant record, have setup to see will it do a preprogrammed record. will see how it works.
    Thanks for the help.

Is there any way to get the recording feature to name the files of the program you actually record rather than the program that just finished beforehand?

Unless they are using older equipment as in 7/8years +, I doubt they will have a serial connection. If you post your location, you might get some kind soul on here that would be willing to do it for you or let you use their computer with a serial port to do it.

Or use their own box if its the same model 250

Tony, thankfully I've not had to do this too often but I wondered if the box to box method will work if one box is showing 'ash'?

If the ASH is indicating a wrong or corrupt firmware then yes but sometimes it can indicate an eeprom failure . As long as the "healthy" box is powered on at all times it should not adversely affect it when trying this.
