I'm just looking for a bit of advice.

My friend got a taxi from outside a pub on Friday evening, as I was going on somewhere else and he was going home he offered to take the suitcase I had with him. Anyway the suitcase got left behind in the taxi, appearently as soon as my friend got out, the driver speed off.
Now there wasn't a lot of much use in the case, as I'd been out to my parents over Christmas and was on my way home. But it'd be a lot of grief trying to replace the clothes, running gear and toileteries (also it's be nice to get the christmas presents back!).

I called the five Garda stations who manage lost property at lunch time and at that stage nothing had been handed in. Can anyone advise, assuming the driver is honest how long they usually take to hand stuff in or is it a lost cause?

The simple answer is that it's going to be up to when the driver gets a chance to drop it in to the lost property offices. The driver may only work nights or he may reside outside of Dublin, these would make dropping it into Dublin at daytime that bit more awkward. Also this time of year doesn't help either as people are all over the shop or he may even away for a few days. I'd say leave it till about Friday and give it a chance to turn up
