Have you had any Christmas Disasters?

So my son asked for a laptop for Christmas and so that's what we got him. Earlier today the other half took it out to get it all set up and put a couple of games on it. I'm not sure what happened next but the end result is the Laptop is dead.

He spent the 3 hours trying to load windows back onto it and various other things to get it to work again but unfortunately nothing worked. Que a very frantic trip to the nearest electrical shop. Luckily he got there just in time and managed to secure a new one!

Not sure what we would have done if all the shops had been closed but thankfully disaster averted...well until the morning at least!!!

So have any of you had any disasters at Christmas and how did you sort it out?

glad you got it sorted out in time

what age is it if he is over 15/16 I'm sure he would of understood until the 26th

always open Christmas gifts if there electronic to make sure there working & put then back in the box

My mother was in a car crash a few hours ago. Car is written off but she's okay. It was a potential Christmas disaster.

Just like that you bought him a new one? I think that's a disaster in itself.

You could have gone without him stuck behind a screen on Christmas Day and got it fixed the next day.

He's 12. I'm sure he knows but still couldn't bear to ruin the surprise!

We bought the laptop a couple of months ago...today he decides to mess with it. :mad:

I asked him to do this a couple of weeks ago. I think the walls heard me but he didn't!!

Me and the pregnant wife Tried to get a hotel or b&b one time,couldn't get one any where,ended up sleeping in a barn,true story

I'm not even thinking about the money at the moment tbh. I'll worry about it next week. Hoping maybe we could get the other fixed and maybe sell it, recoup a bit of the money back that way.

I always struggle to think of presents to buy for my (retired) parents.

One year, my mother got herself a new car. After a bit of thinking (bad move), I decided to buy her a 'reinflate your flat tyre mechanical type' gizmo. The male part of my brain thought it was a perfect gift but it obviously wasn't. I now know that if my mother has a flat tyre, she phones me...

This year, I've bought her an internet tablet. What could possibly go wrong

A laptop probably worth about 400 quid for a kid at Xmas?

Back in my day(yeh yeh). was lucky to get a 50quid pressie from the parents. Poverty back then, oh my.

Disasters? Today my Girlfriends house and that next door was robbed whilst they were out. All presents taken. That counts as a pretty big disaster I think.... and as usual the perp's will probably get away scot free

I bought a restaurant voucher as a present for my Dad this morning and I dropped it somewhere. I think it was on the bus. I rang Donnybrook garage - no sign of it. I went back to shops I'd been in. No sign. Eventually someone in one of the shops said to me - go back and get it cancelled in the Restaurant and get a new one. After waiting for a bus that was 45 minutes late in the bitter cold, I got back to the restaurant. The front was closed. Disaster I thought. I went round the back and it was open. They voided the voucher and gave me a new one.

2 Years ago I got the other half tickets abroad as a present to be leaving Ireland on the 26th. When we got to the airport I found out my passport was too damaged to fly, it had been in my back pocket every day as I'd use it for ID in the shop.

Got chickenpox today, can't see the family or friends as there's small kids or babies around, kinda sucks but gotta make the most of it. Making my first Christmas dinner tomorrow, should be fun.
