Can you provide some links to what you're saying please. I've read newspaper reports recently that he was available for 5 million last summer but Celtic baulked at the asking price.

This article linked is from last August: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2389590/Celtic-pay-5m-Heerenveen-striker-Alfred-Finnbogason.html

They might be wrong, but then again maybe it's you that is wrong.

Did he say this recently or did he say this last summer. Again links please.

This statement was made after the reports that he would be available for £5m because of debt issues at the club

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/332056/Celtic-told-big-money-offer-will-tempt-Heerenveen-to-part-with-Alfred-Finnbogason
"If some club comes in with a large offer, there is nothing I can do.

"He is so important to this club on and off the pitch, so if clubs want to buy him, they will have to throw a lot of money at us."

"He's good for at least 20 goals a season for us and we won't sell him for a reduced fee,"

Last summers speculation seems to have turned into a fact somehow.

Everton, West Ham, Sunderland & Aston Villa were all tracking him aswell. They all dropped their interest when the club made that statement. Its quite easy to see that it was going to take more than the initial estimates to get him last summer.

The fee being touted to get him now is £5m despite 6 months less on his contract & him stating his intent not to sign a new contract and to leave the club sooner rather than later.

Hope we still get him looks unlikely now though, and hopefully we can get someone that can replace Hooper for next summers CL qualifiers. If it takes 5 to 6 million to get that player then the club can afford it and should be prepared to spend it.

Celtic F.C. have phoned Aberdeen asking how much they want for Ryan Gauld.

I'd happily take him for £5m

Celtic arent going to like the answer. He's signed 2 new contracts in the last 3 months!

Looking forward to the St Johnstone game. I think we might actually get a really good atmosphere after the whole flag ban fiasco. Hopefully the team can produce a big performance as well. I imagine we will have a similar lineup to Saturday with maybe Matthews and Forrest coming in to the lineup for Fisher and Biton.

Great goal, pity about the rest of the game. It was awful

Good goal that exemplified VVD's dominance in the league. I don't think he's too far off Wanyama's level and we made £10m in the process - granted it''s not a like for like replacement but in terms of strength and control of the game they are similar. I also think he would do well in an advanced position if we had better CB cover. Hopefully we wait a while before cashing in on him.

Was a particularly nasty 'challenge' on him late on from that Kane boy that deserved at least a booking, instead they got a throw which they wouldn't even give back! I thought Lennon showed a bit of maturity/composure in the wake of that where in the past he might have given officials an excuse to discipline him. Then again the stakes aren't as high these days so there's less tension in general.

Stoke was unlucky again and should have had a goal if not for some poor refereeing. Feel for the guy because these things are very quickly forgotten whereas the hard statistics are not, so it's another game without scoring for him.

Thought he was terrible again today

Yeah I don't think he covered himself in glory I'm just saying that he scored a perfectly legitimate goal which will be swiftly forgotten about in favour of it being "another match where Stokes didn't score". He's been involved in a lot of our goals this year, had an awful lot of shots hit the woodwork and been denied by some fantastic saves - he doesn't deserve to be grouped with the likes of Pukki, Samaras, Balde who have been genuine duds.

Ledley and Samaras started again today btw - why? Samaras was gash as usual, he's not even putting in his biannual form performances when his contract is up for renewal. Ledley is one of our best players but we don't actually need him for the rest of the season so bench him until he signs a new deal and if he won't he can fúck off and let somebody else get a game who wants to be at the club.

Balde should be given a chance. From the odd time he's been played he looks a bit ungainly, but he has scored a couple of goals on those rare appearances he's had. He should be given a run in the team now.

Stokes is SPL/Championship/very lower EPL quality at best. He would do better playing alongside another main striker. However he's not good enough to be Celtic's main striker if Celtic are serious about maintaining a presence at CL Group Stage level.

Samaras and Ledley can gtf, sell them both in January for as much as we can get.

Agree with that, although that is not too bad a level. Most fans of English football would have you told that we're League 2 standard ourselves

His form when played alongside Hooper was excellent, as you would expect from a creative forward when paired with a predatory finisher.

I'm looking forward to seeing Watt back at Celtic, as well as Jackson Irvine who seems to have had quite a good time of it at Killie. No doubt we'll just send them both back out on loan though and continue with the same line up each week...

Tony "fat and lazy" Watt once again coming off the bench to run his arse off and score a brace. Great goals as well

Don't they still play that song over the tannoy at Parkhead around a half hour or so before kick off as the crowds are filing in?

Did they get arrested for singing that, or while singing that, but for something else?

As above, its still played at Celtic Park before kick off, certainly was last time I was at a game anyway

The club should play "The Roll of Honour" as well before games in solidarity with supporters and put an end to this nonsense of fans getting arrested for singing non-sectarian songs for good. Celtic fans should not be facing trial for singing songs like "The Roll of Honour" that are not sectarian in nature and the club should not be abandoning these supporters. When supporters step out of line the club should deal with them, but equally when supporters are being badly treated by the authorities the club should publicly support them.

I think the topic was covered here before when this story came out last week:

The club doesn't have the balls to do something as edgy as draw a line somewhere in Republican politics as to what is acceptable. It is much easier to take the safe, mainstream route and outlaw the entire thing. Celtic fans and Republicans are a minority in the scheme of things. Mainstream party politicians would love to do this with dissident politics in general of course, but people would probably point out that it is fascism. When it comes to football though it's much easier as lots of people (in the UK) believe the two should have nothing in common, and football fans in general are quite an easy target when it comes to authoritarian treatment - none more so than the Old Firm(tm).

Doesn't look likely judging by Lennon's comments(on my phone so can't link). He said he was there on loan for the year and if he did come back we couldn't loan him again this season so it sounds like he won't be in the first team squad if he does. Went on to talk about Watt being a handful in terms of managing.

Its a pity because the 2 goals linked above show the talent the lad has, we could do with him in form for the rest of the season

Article you are referring to is in the Daily Mail. He seems to be saying he has a future at the club but wants him to stick it out in Belguim for the full season. Watt is not starting games for Lierse seeing as he's going to be staying there it will be interesting to see if he can nail a starting place in their line up.

I think Lennon loaned him out more in hope that a season out of the Glasgow goldfish might help him mature rather than for footballing reasons, if Watt can get himself back playing for Lierse after the earlier fallout with the manager it would go a long way to show he's prepared to knuckle down and do the work.

I hope he can do that as he looks a real talent
