    Its owndly drugs.

Cyclists died going up those hills before EPO.

There was an article in the papers there a while back looking recovery times of a marathin runner. Think this lad did 60 marathons back to back. Not a record. But his wear and tear was a fraction of the normal persons. He litterally did little damage and lost little muscle, cartilage or whatever after the marathons.

    Cant think of his name.

Oh sure, Simpson one example. But that was from amphetamine use. His heart exploded. The drugs and cheating regimes are very different today and have been for the last 20 odd years. The old drugs were mostly psychological.

Oh yea there are certainly amazing individuals out there. Even average people can do things far beyond what they think they're physically capable of.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Saw the same article yesterday. Didn't really pay too much attention to his name. But I was wondering, if this kind fo thing is true and not boosted in some way, could there be other people who'd no interest in endurance events that don't know they've a similar setup to this guy, but gone untested?

I think so. Theres only a small percentage of people who are competitive, sports wise. Few of them are anything special. One percent of people could be exceptional in one way or a number of ways. The human body is incredible.

Would love to travel the world and interview top athletes.

:/Health benefits aside, I always feel like a fitness/ training regime would do me no good. I used to run for a while a few years back but my gammie knee put paid to any ambitions I had at the time and I was pretty gutted. I had lost a ton of weight at the time and saw running as being a big part of my future. The weight I had also means I have a bit of perma-flab. As for the upper body, a couple of motorbike accidents mean my right shoulder is half bone, half foundry so ya, I'm strategically fcukered at this stage :/ I never had and never will have a beach body. C'est la vie. It is tough to hear d'ladies talk about really buff guys and know that it's more than me being too lazy. I have improved my physique a lot but I consider it to be prohibitively difficult to take things much further. I'd be looking at surgery on the knee and some cosmetic stuff that I could never justify doing even if I had the money.

I walk 15-20 miles a week for my general health and well-being which does me the world of good. I'm much slimmer than I once was. The rest is pretty much here to stay.

Fellas like that would be rare enough around these parts though. On the plus side, there seems to be a lot more men and women in Ireland getting into fitness now which is a good thing.

I don't like six packs, a bit of shoulder definition is nice. The kind of fitness you get from manual labour can be nice. (before the beer belly that many seem to have.)

A flat stomach is good, just flat, not heavily defined.

It was before my time, but there was a programme on the BBC during the 70s and 80s called Superstars, where different sportsmen would compete against each other to see who was the fittest overall. Brian Jacks, who was a judoka, was apparently one of the most successful men on it. Actually, I think the show originated in America.

What kind of fitness do you get from manual labour? All sorts of people with different body types do manual labour.

Functional strength/fitness. For example, the ability to lift irregular shaped objects and loads. In a gym, most people lift weights that are easy to pick up and are evenly weighted. So a man who constantly lifts in the gym, might not necessarily find certain types of manual labour easy - at least not initially. Strongman training is more about functional strength.

True, but in relation to body types you'll see all sorts doing manual labour.

Guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder!

I'm way too big for probably a lot of girls, especially Irish.

I'm 133kg and apparently 30% bf which expert on boards has told me.

    I'm content

Swimmer or gymnast is what I would want if I wasn't a lazy Shiite.

From past experiences, currently in a relationship (gf is not Irish) and from numerous conversations with different people, Irish girls seem to stay away from bigger guys (when I refer to bigger guys here in this instance I'm talking bout guys with a fair amount if muscle too).

Dunno whether they're scared or just not into it.

Seems quite the opposite in Eastern Europe!

Yep noticed that too. I wonder is there a link between the longterm stability of a culture and a liking for bigger blokes? A protective type vibe? A few of the nations in Eastern Europe went into some turmoil post the wall coming down. Gender roles as far as appearance goes seem to be more rigid in Eastern Europe too. More traditional society = liking bigger men?

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Hmmm, plenty of Asain societies, that we would count as traditional, see tones as male beauty rather than bulked.

But, a lot of the aforementioned countries have different notions of strength.

Personally, I think a lot of women stay away from big guys because they're seen as vain.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here.

Just from my experiences from OD and from reading what guys have said. Girls tend to only go for guys who are big. Not fat mind you but big.
