Demi Moore in some 80's flick said 'never date a guy who has a smaller arse than you'.

Most people - both men and women - think that looks absolutely ridiculous. But muscular guys who are not freakishly muscular do have their fans, of course. The irony is that some of those men are not really that fit at all, and in some cases don't even have a lot of functional strength. I wouldn't mind developing a physique a lot of those MMA fighters have, such as the one this guy has: http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/GSP.jpg

It's also worth mentioning that some of those freakishly large men have psychological issues. They will often say they were small as a child and were bullied etc. I've watched quite a few documentaries about them.

Bodybuilders wouldnt be exactly fit. Plenty of muscle but the cardio of a block of cheese.

it seems you are intimating that cheese is known for its lack of stamina - how so?

Coleman is a very strong man indeed. Possibly not as strong as he looks but still much stronger than most men will ever be.

Lots of men in general have 'psychological issues'. Most do not go on to be at the absolute top of their chosen field of endeavour.

It's not something I'd strive for but you can't but admire the dedication, commitment and focus these guys have.

And Gongoozler will no doubt question my sexuality, but Coleman's back is just insane!

If a guy has a ft long down below, women dont care how fit they are. So ive been told anyway

Oh I wasn't saying that their dedication wasn't admirable. And I'm sure they don't all have psychological problems. But it wouldn't be the sort of body most people would choose to have.

Coleman is super strong. Probably super fit too. I guarantee most of those MMA guys would love to be able to move the weight he does or have his cardio fitness.

I guarantee they wouldnt want his cardio. That much muscle would require a ridiculous amount of oxygen. He'd barely be able to hold his hands up by the end of round 1

I really admire those that put that level of effort into building and maintaining their body to that extent but I can't help but feel the same was about super muscley guys the way I feel about super overweight guys- it is an extreme that comes inherently with a lack of life balance.

Out of curiosity. what happens to a body that has been built that big and is subsequently allowed to decline?

Still, he could take a beating I'd say. And he'd only need to get lucky once. You'd have to be lucky all the time!

Coleman will become a real life nutty professor.

    Not really.

If that was the case we'd have a lot of bodybuilder style champions....or even ones with decent records.
Theyres pretty much none. Especially at any kind of higher level

Also, the strength those guys have is almost useless without grappling experience. Well, it's useless against trained athletes anyway. We saw what happened when that Polish strongman decided to try MMA (although to his credit, he appears to have improved a bit with time and effort).

I personally prefer a man who looks like he works for a living, little bit muscly but not too built. But that's my preference and I wouldn't like to say somebody is too fit when most men are in dreadful shape, and yes that's even in comparison to Irish women.

I was not being entirely serious.

150kg bodybuilders certainly dont jog for six miles a day. 90kg BJJers dont have an 800lb deadlift.

Comparing like for like. His body would need some amount of oxygen to get through a conditioning session. Be interesting to compare conditioning training between RC and a cage fighter.

Didnt Pudinowski lose something like 40 kilos to compete in MMA?

I'd more worry about the extra help chemical wise and the oft serious hormonal fallout from that. Never mind liver and heart damage among other things. Unless someone is a vanishingly rare freak of nature that level of musculature is not natural. Now they have to put in Herculean levels of hard work, diet and sheer willpower to get to that, but the "additives" are required. Google bodybuilders before steriods came along. Some impressive physiques I grant you, but watch how they seriously balloon in bulk in the 70's.

If I wasn't a lazy bastard and scrawny with it. Old too. What physique would I like to have? IMHO Leo DaVinci got it right all those centuries ago Vitruvian man. Apparently that's a selfie too. Fair play Leo, given he'd have been around 40 at the time.

What I find interesting about that and other male ideals going waaaaay back is that in Europe at least the ideal for men doesn't vary much at all. Whereas the ideal for women can vary a lot. I mean if Daniel Craig came outa the surf with Leos bod it would be on a lot of ladies(and mens) "ohhhh I so would". list.

And if they said they liked muscular guys they'd be criticised too. Damned do, damned don't.
Why are you so convinced they're lies anyway? Lots of women do fancy skinny men. I don't think many women fancy fat guys (it's not impossible though) but plenty of women dislike muscles.

Personally I like a bit of muscle definition/leanness, but don't find the beefcake look attractive at all.

Not really, there are loads of skinny men in their twenties who look like they couldn't pick anything up they are not in much better shape then the big bellied men in their thirties onwards. You can be unfit and not be fat.
I like big shoulders and chest, the six pack is a little too much, skinny is too little=. But then should you be reducing people to body parts when I give out when its done to women.

True dat. I've the makings of a four pack and a fair bit of definition in the arms and legs, but it's simply down to low bodyfat and a small child could pummel me. New years resolution. Get fit enough to take down toddlers.

    Define fit.
    This. Exactly this.

The type of fitness you require might not be the one you are genetically built for, but you can still do your best. Being like Ronnie Coleman or Jay Cutler will allow you to do well in bodybuilding comps, but ask one of them to enter a cross-country race and they won't be doing too well at all. Conversely, ask the Brownlee brothers (not Edward though) to enter a strongman comp instead of their native triathlons, same thing will happen...they're training for a different kind of fitness.

Fitness is relative to the task required. If it begins to deteriorate your health and wellbeing, then it has gone too far.

in the early UFC years there was a few but they gradually changed the rules and it no longer suited their 'style'. the big guys could wrestle an opponent to the ground and finish him off with knees to the head
