Cows back in milk today, drought really biting now and costing money.

You feeding bales or more meal yet? Only managed to keep up yields here by opening back up silage ground, not ideal letting the cows into covers of 1800kg+, but at least they are grazing them down fairly well, using strip grazing. Very little grass close to the parlour also, so carefully budgeting out the one or two fields with good covers there for grazing at night.

On the plus side, no mastitis from any cows in about 2months or so here, have two ladies with high scc being held the whole time for the calves, and 2 or 3 others who seem to be yoyo'ing around, letting them off for now, tank scc holding at 250ish, I'd guess it would be lower if I removed them, but while I'm underquota at the minute, milk in the tank is milk in the tank.

I had a cow last year and was told she was off the chart so high they couldn't get a reading!! Machine was hopping!!!
The 2 cows I had the other evening are now cured after 4 tubes of tetra delta.im getting a lot of cows with high conductivity in parlour though at moment.scc gone up slightly to 115 k,yields also back close to 2 Ltrs in last 10 days.still respectable though at 26.2 and 3.95 fat 3.53 protein.think yields will drop further cows give most of day lying under the ditch.cant say I'd blame them!!!

have reduced my bulk tank scc by 33% over the last few weeks, got rid of 2 highest scc cows to factory- i had been holding their milk anyways but i assume they where still affecting scc- changed teat spray to deosan teatfoam

Anyone ever done a sensitivity test? Very worth while brought down scc from 400 to 80 this year by using the right dry cow tube for the job. Got the first case of mastitis this year today.

Did you test all cows or just the high ladies?

tested all the cows when we had high scc to find the millionares and then i think it was just a sample taken from the bulk tank to find out what bugs were in the milk. Get the right tube for the bug and keep it under control then, we dip clusters here because of staf aurus which came up in the sensitivity test

    Goal was <120

    Achieved <150

Again "need to work harder", just like my school reports!!!!???

Goal was to <350! Achieved 290 average! Aim low and you can't fail :P But nay, main thing I only had one month over the 350 limit (last Jan), and I kept control of most high scc cows, by either milking at the end, or cluster dipping etc, I didn't hold back a huge amount of this high SCC milk however, as I'm underquota. Next year <200!

Was just comparing my own with previous years, back to 160 from 230 last year and 260 in 2011, happy enough, will keep working at it.

You have a high lady or two in there. If you could identify with cmt and milk last you could cut out cluster dipping I'd say.

ye i know who they are now with the milk recording. There was two, dried off one, other one is a cull and id say the rest is coming off the one with the split teat. But the paracitic acid is keeping it down

Shows that cluster dipping does work at least! I tend to avoid clusterdipping if I can, esp on the whole herd, you end up with a soup bucket of bacteria and could do more harm than good if you don't change the acid often enough during the milking!

Are you dipping all clusters or just the ones that come off the high cell count cows?

credit to glanbia(cough choke splutter) but the frequent scc results by text are excellent for monitoring the whole issue ... had a 60 and a 43 during last week... cant say the year will be sub 100 but will be near it ... jersey i cluster dip any high girls or recent treated cows until next recording.
ibelieve its well worth it ... dont cut it out

Reckon milking anything over 300 last was what made biggest difference here, only a few thank god.

ye the whole herd is dipped i made uo a trolley for the bucket that ye can push uo and down the pit, change thevwater twice each milking l. Started 5 yrs ago because we had staf aurus in the whole herd and that sorted it out, ill try not dipping again when the cows go out again full time and see what happens

have seen the cluster flush system in operation and its a good time saver where dipping is practised... must be mighty expensive though cos i couldnt get a price outta yer man

does anyone use the pera spray system from ambic.. cant be that expensive might be a good option .. (timmay give us an ould link please:D)

Here ya go: http://www.milkingmachines.co.uk/uk2shop-17.htm To be honest, I gaveup totally with the cluster bucket, too much hassle changing the acid in it, sure the experts recommend you dip no more than 12 clusters into it!! You'd spend longer changing the acid than milking. Instead I just now use a spare teat dip bottle (https://www.agridirect.ie/p/sprayer_teat_bottle_type_600ml like this), and just spray some of the acid into the unit, and flush it out with a bit of water, thats only for the odd high SCC cow.

no need to flush its degraded in seconds ...

Had a dairy inspection here last week and the inspector was telling me about the huge fine farms with cluster flush with teat spray were getting for iodine taint in the milk. Looks like iodine based teat sprays are going to be a thing of the past in NZ shortly with the introduction of new milk tests, they now test for an additional 60 chemical residues

ADF system I bet, lots of bad reports about them going around and for what they cost you would be expecting a hassle free safe system.
