So if he was not sacked did Hector 'let himself go'?

I heard him talking to Tubridy about it this morning.. Tubridy was his usual sickeningly fawning self of course...

The spin Hector was putting on it was that he was throwing off the 2FM shackles to go out on the road with his TV show.. I was half expecting him to play the music that you used to heard at the end of The Incredible Hulk.

He said that it wasnt feasible to host a radio show full time and present a TV show. There was no mention of a) Hector leaving because the figures are bad or b) Tubridy's apparent immunity from a similar fate, even though his figures are similarly bad. That sort of thing is not discussed in polite conversation.

There any many reasons why neither of them would discuss Listener Numbers or the real reason Hector is leaving today. There is a time and a place for these discussions, but it's not during the on-air handover the day after Hector was relieved of his duties.

Tubridy manages to do 2 radio shows and a tv show

And an honourable mention for the then Head of 2FM whose inspired choice it was to unleash an obviously unsuitable character onto a major national breakfast show.

John McMahon will not be loosing his job this Christmas, despite a series of poor decisions at the helm of 2FM. Not all his fault, I'm sure, but he certainly didn't help.

I am going to miss him in the mornings. I liked his chatty upbeat happy personality. Played decent music.

I wish him well whatever he's up to next.

It was always a White Christmas when Gerry was in the hotseat

Don't like to see anyone losing their job but, realistically, he was the wrong man for the job. It does make Dan Healy look like a bit of a gowl now though.

Hopefully this is just the start of changes there.

Flicked over a few times to Hector over the last year but I just never heard the attraction in the show. It sounded like it was designed for the non-Dublin listener. Sadly that's a huge part of the audience that's required for a national success and ultimately I imagine the reason it failed. I think the guy is funny but he is quite visual and the comedic value is lost on radio.

I think that the major issue for the show was the repetition and him not knowing when to stop the repetition.

The "Soldiers of the Dawn" phrase... "Keep her Lit".... "the size of the babby, the parish of the babby, the name of the babby"...... started to grate and he should have moved on from that.

I listened in the first week and I enjoyed the show and enjoyed the fact that he was playing some good tunes but it just got too annoying to listen to.

The last time I tuned in he was interviewing a child - now, I'm not sure how that appeals to any adult listener.

I used to enjoy the show he had with Tommy Tiernan as they worked well together and the show was completely irreverent. Maybe he needed Tommy and a less structured format.

The "Soldier of the Dawn" sh1te was definitely a factor in him getting sacked. The "harmless bogger" act only goes so far.

he was very poor on the radio show and deserved to go
in fact all the morning shows are poor
can they not just play music and save us from having to listen to the "craic"

I think its very unfair that Hector alone got axed, About 80% of the 2fm presenters needed to be axed, why choose just Hector ?

It's a very good start anyway. I know only one person that would listen to him in the mornings.

Yes, obviously that is the most reasonable solution, it's hard to find a good mix on a station that covers such a large demographic, and geographical location though, but I don't understand people who don't like the station or certain shows/presenters but still listen each day then come here to moan about it, why listen if you don't like it?

Lack of choice would be an issue. I mean, if you're outside Dublin your choices for music stations are Today FM, 2FM or whatever your local offering is. I can quite easily imagine people just flicking between all the stations during the day just because there's nothing worth getting invested in.

So, let's take Hector as an example. Someone could be driving to work, listening to Dempsey, Dempsey does a segment they don't like (lots of people don't like Paul Collins for example) and then flick to 2FM who might, at that time, be playing music. Song ends, Hector comes on and does something that annoys them.

I often think people on here get the impression that everyone who complains about a radio show is sitting down with a pen and paper noting every little transgression each time the show is on just so they can come on here and complain.

I wouldn't accuse anyone of that, most posters are constructive in here and have an interest in Irish Radio. I think though we have the problem of looking at the industry from the outside, we come up with idea's here that seem logical but there are always other factors at play behind the scenes.

Sometimes we need to think about what it is actually like in somewhere like RTE and 2fm. They can't just go to playing music at that hour because they will lose any sponsorship, they have to fulfill a certain talk and news output which could be another factor, then there are those listeners who actually like the comedy/music format, if they lose them and don't replace those listeners then they lose out to other competitors such as Today FM or regional stations. They don't have a ratings winner after breakfast now either so it's important to have a sustainable breakfast show, Hector wasn't working so they are trying something different, it's just a bit annoying that when the station actually takes action people are still complaining.

Everyone wants something different from radio at that hour it seems, even if there are 4 different types of listener, which one do 2fm go for?

Thought he was on Today FM for the week. Only gets one day.
    Show was terrible yesterday.
That comedian lad is back on the air.

Neil Delamare announced Hector was off due to "Unforeseen Circumstances" and would hopefully be back this week. Could be anything so no point in speculating. Prefer Neil anyway!

Yeh last Friday Neil said that Hector was in all this week, and he was in for one day yesterday and Neil back today???? I wonder why.

In his opening link he said he hoped he would be back soon. Not "this week" or are you referring too another link?
