Do these models have the same problems as the 1.4 petrol golf? That is that they are a bad engine and burn oil? Thanks

Is the 1.4 really considered to be such a bad engine in comparison to other makes? Would the motor trade regard them as a bad engine? Lots of these engines around, especially Golfs, and in good condition, doesn't seem to add up.

The reason why there's lots of them is because it was/is considered a type of fashion for Irish people to buy 1.4's and nothing bigger. It certainly was and still is in my house. Just take a look on DoneDeal and look at the ratio of 1.4 to 1.6 Golfs or Focus's. The 1.4 is a dying breed (with the exception of the VW TSi) on the new car market these days, the 1.5 dci and 1.6 PSA engine are today's equivalent.

The main culprit is the tax system in this country unfortunately.
