WD TV Live over WIFI for Netflix?

    Have an e-motion (ALDI I think) TV, 40", about 2 years old. Also have WIFI through eircom landline (works well for internet browsing).

    What would people think of WD TV Live to deliver Netflix to the above set up? Could have the option of testing out the above set-up with an XBox 360 (again about 2 years old) but wouldnt be a permanent solution as XBox going away again. Would it be advisable to test out the WIFI first with Xbox before spending 85 euro on WD TV Live?

    To get Netflix on Xbox you need Xbox live Gold (plus Netflix subscription), is Xbox live Gold expensive?

    How far is your broadband router from your TV location?

    I'm assuming you mean that you can use your laptop or whatever in the same room as TV on wifi with no issues. Most devices, be it laptop or tablet, can indicate how good or bad your wifi signal level is.

    Distance from router is probably about 20ft in a straight line (through plasterboard walls), but would take multiples of that in network cabling to connect (downstairs in a 2 storey so no handy pop into attic and across).

    Might investigate if could get phone socket behing TV working, but maybe try wifi on xbox for a start. Signal tends to say "good" or "very good" - whether that translates into watchable Netflix is the challenge!

    You should be able get a decent reception for netflix. I use the wd tv live but also have an Apple TV, if you are only planning on using the box for Netflix I would recommend to Apple TV over the wd, I am a huge fan of the wd tv live but the Netflix app on the Apple TV works a lot better and quicker and the wifi reception on it is excellent.

    I think it should work.

    My WDTV Live box is upstairs, and my router is downstairs 2 rooms over. Works fine. In a timber frame house so don't have block walls to kill signal.
