It says in the booklet for queries call 0818332333 yet you said that if that other person read the booklet they would find the email address. It doesn't give any email address for queries like that persons. So in other words if you read it yourself instead instead you would be better than posting comments that is no help to anyone what so ever. That's the problem here to many being rude instead of helpful.

That number is listed along with a 01-858 number which gets you through to PAS and also the said Email address. Pretty sure publicjobs website also states that they can be emailed at info@publicjobs.ie. the staff are excellent at getting back to people just make sure you provide a contact number

Word of advice here for the lads/lassies, if you have any queries in relation to Qualifications, make contact with PAS and you will have your answer.

None of us know for sure, and by asking here, nothing certain or good will come out of it!

It seem's(to me) like people are starting to hate each other!

    PAS or Garda HR

This is the point I'm trying to make. People would rather ask on a discussion thread than actually enquire with the employing authority or take any heed of written info provided by them. Its one of those irritants that really gets to me.

There is nobody asking anything here that is in writing anywhere for them. Don't know what you are taking about.

People asking about foundation level and LCA. And 'do I need to have irish?'
Document states the minimum requirements clearly

I didn't see where anyone asked if they needed Irish.

Typical Irish make a balls of the most basic part of the whole recruitment which is the 'educational requirements'. In fairness it's amazed me the amount of people on boards and in 'real life' that's confused by it. I think people are more shocked that LCA and Foundation Irish has been dropped more than anything else.

Publicjobs.ie are shut for the weekend. Anyone else think these organisations should be opened whilst recruitment is on going? Would stop a back log of emails and phone calls.

How has anyone made a balls of the recruitment. Its pretty straight forward. Minimum requirement is standard leaving cert.

Honestly don't know why I'm even replying

Yea they should have a 24 hour call centre open and every time a ridiculous email comes in a big red flashing siren goes off. Which would be every 2 mins by the looks of things

Or maybe a personal advisor at their side to hold their hand all thru the process

They've obviousally made a balls of it considering the amount of people confused. Maybe i'm wrong and people didnt bother their ass reading the booklet. Which is the most likely thing that's happened...

My gripe is the upper age limit!

I think it's ageist - in this PC cuddley all embracing era we now live in!

I'm 43 and have done triathlons and can wrestle with the best of them and I have built up a bank of wisdom with age and experience.

Anyone else feel that age should not be an issue?

Btw - good luck to all aspiring wo(men) in blue we need good people out there on our streets

Well if an info book confuses them God help them with trying to understand basic law if they get that far

i dont think its to do with fitness or health

i think its the 30year service contract and pension entitlements etc

Yes it is, if you join at 43 you wouldn't be able to leave until you are 73 to get your pension! You need to serve 30 years minimum in the force. Unless u want to quit of course

I hope it's more to do with not reading the booklet than actually not being able to understand it.

If this many people failed to understand the booklet then there's not that much competition after all :P:P

Its got to do with the mandatory retirement age etc etc

I don't think it's fair and I do agree there is untapped potential with older candidates. The reserve doesn't have the upper age limit and I thought they might have stretched it but not this time.

Is there any reason why a group of 'over-age applicant's' wouldn't have a case if they brought it to the courts?

They 'reason' for the age limit can be seen here:

Anyone think many reserves will walk away if not picked this time round?

I think they can and could, raise it to 45? They'd still get a good few years out of applicants then, even though they are aware of the future re pension or other

If you join at 35 you won't be able to keep going until you reach 30 years service either so it's not about 30 years service as you can't work up until you are 65 in an Gardai

Or if a garda takes leave of a sense for whatever reason - (a part in love hate!)

Pensions are usually calculated on the number of years served and not an exact promise for a period of service

    oh wow

the commissioner will be delighted you have spotted that obvious lack of judgement on his organisations part

how silly of them to set it at a reasonable age that suits the needs of operational policing on this island

Thanks for the post. Reasons don't seem plausible and would hardly hold much weight if pressed. Garda trainees spend a lot of time out working and the new recruits will have full powers after only 8 months!

The 3rd reason is more explicit in stating the preeminence of brawn

The Gardai need to have a graduate entry programme like they do in the U.K. but it seems like they don't place much value in academic training

Reasonably age? On what grounds are you making your judgement? It was 26 up until a few years ago - was that also a reasonable age as it was deemed by a previous commissioner

I'll be very interested in your reply

i think its reasonable to assume that somebody joining at 35 will have a good career up to 65 and still be able to carry out his/her duties (whatever they maybe) at 65
