The big dirty bowel evacuation afterwards. The best part of the christmas dinner. See if you can pass a brussell sprout whole

The gravy soaked turkey mixed with the stuffing. And the potato croquettes.
And the booze. Dear Lord, let us not forget the booze.

Yes the only good thing I can say about sprouts is they do seem to prompt spectacularly satisfying bowel movements.

Beyond any doubt, spiced beef. The smell of it being cooked christmas eve, the gorgeous taste of it at dinner and the spiced beef, ham and stuffing sandwiches for tea

    /drools.

The wine I drink while cooking the dinner.

The wine I drink with the starter.

The wine I drink with the mains.

The wine I drink with dessert.

The smell of brussels sprouts sicken me, it is as if an open sewer was in the kitchen on Christmas day. Sprouts and Cabbage are both banned in my house.

The steak, the lovely, lovely steak. And the garlic potatoes. And the roast carrots.

    The wine.

    The After Eights.

    All of it really :D

My auld fella does the dinner at home. Ex firefighter, was the chef of the group...

Any whooo.... He strips all the dark meat from the legs and rolls it on one of those butchers nets (like a large sausage) filled in the centre with his own stuffing and black pudding. Christ almighty!!!

I'm off to my OH's this Christmas Day... But the auld lad is under strict instruction to save me a few slices.

On the plus side... My OHs mam... There must be 20 different things on the table for a Sunday. Christmas must be like this on steroids...

    Can't wait.

It shouldn't if it's been killed properly!

The starter. The only time of the year we have one. Usually bbq salmon. The lashings of gravy and the sweating but the determination to finish it all and still have room for dessert and tea with a tin of biscuits and chocolate sweets. Followed by a fierce urge to sleep but you don't want to miss any part of the day!

Unfortunately, traditional Christmas dinner has become a weekend dinner with a chicken replacing the turkey.

I actually don't like turkey, especially as it's never cooked right, the stuffing is best just bought in, but then it's not stuffing, it's a side dish, and it really isn't a side dish.

I do like the ham, but I could put an extension on my house for the cost of just one half a pig I used to be treated to as a kid in 1960.

Over the years my preferences changed, as a married person, I loved the sex, the visits to the beach, the new arrivals [how did that happen?] and I think the only thing remotely consistent in my say, 55 years of Christmas'es has been the Ham, even badly cooked it was usable, too raw could be fryed and it remained resilient and it made massive sandwiches, rather it did, but still today's thin slice is still very welcome.

So, I have to say it's the Ham.

    stuffing + turkey

    lovely

    In this order:

The stuffing (several types) with gravy
    The garlic potatoes
The sprouts (sautéed in butter with bacon bits & almonds)
    The goose-fat roast potatoes
    All the rest

But best of all are the multiple chocolate desserts & ice cream & mountains of chocolate after.

Totally worth flying over 3,000 miles home for :D

    Roast spuds, nothing like them.

When all are fed, dishes put away and cleaned and just chilling on the couch with your guests, watching the kids play with their toys and you think you yourself thank god thats over for another year, then getting rid of the relatives before bed time and curling up with the hubby with a few quality street sweets

Looks like 99% of you are eating the same dinner.
Would you not like something different to turkey etc?

I like my sprouts to take a good basting, followed doing the goose.
