as far as i know based on the leaving cert foundation irish counts as nothing

Yes from my reading of that not having the language may be ok if you have lc 5 passes or fetac level 5 but you will have to do an assessment from pas to prove u can handle it.
As I said in earlier post I could be way wrong but to the poster who thinks he's out of it for only having foundation don't give up just yet you might be ok just another test with the aptitude to study for. You could prob enroll in repeat leaving cert class nd have it done before training starts nyway not the end of the world.

I hope your right. How do we find out more?

I have A-Level English, French and German - Grade A, is this acceptable?

    No Irish whatsoever though.

Yeah mate, I contacted them this morning via email, and got a quick response, said I was applying from the North and wanted to clarify that I was eligible with what I had, leaving cert's are equivalent to GCSE's, languages has to be either fluent in English or Irish, those fluent in Irish if successful can be stationed in Gaeltacht areas, other than that free to apply

5 friends and family are members with service between 7 and 20 years. Every one of them would recommend against coming into the job at this point. For all of them to be pressurised and disillusioned says a lot. Its a rudderless oppressive job just now, with barriers to actually carrying out the work all over the place. Leaving aside the allowances, which have already been savaged, when you qualify, your take home pay will be something like €345 pw after you contribute to the pension and pay your taxes and levies. Given the expense that is involved with simply being in the job (expensive accommodation proximate to the workplace, transport costs outside of peaks hours etc) I would urge people to think hard on it, I have seen the job age my friends before their time.

I was told something similar, i'm from the North and the pay in comparison is like Night and Day, training for the counterparts here starts the minute you start training at 23k GBP plus 3K allowance for danger pay, and upon attestation 25k GBP plus 3k allowance, however the cost of living even with taxes is nothing in comparison to some areas in the south, I've applied to see how far it goes, but 187 euro a week for 32 weeks and then 23k upon attestation isn't great lol, your pretty much screwed if your stationed in the likes of Dublin lol, dont mean to sound negative as I know there are many who want this career more than air itself, but yeah good bit of advice Larbre, those that get through sure as hell aren't doing it for the money lol

Folks it's not a prison sentence, if you decided you don't like it after a few years like any job there's always the option of leaving and walking out the door. I don't think anyone in AGS is been forced into staying there, I know there's been changes as a Reserve you can see it but I see it in my day job too. Everyone in any type of job is getting there pay assaulted not just AGS.

There ARE plenty leaving it and plenty more would if they could, it's not always about pay but also conditions, I've seen a lot of people return to careers in the private sector especially those involved in IT. It's all relative, some people would work for nothing to get in, they might not be cost effective in the long run even at nothing, some arrogant members of the public want you on their doorstep in seconds when they call and feel the right to abuse you when there are 6 calls ahead of them and one patrol car in the district. Those of you who do join might well have a great career but it's a life changing job, you can go to work one night and come home with images in your mind that will bother you till the day you die, you'll get shag all support from management and your collegues will be you strenght in most cases. But it can be very rewarding as well, you'll see sides of life that most people won't in a lifetime, it's not for everyone and I would never look down on anyone who leaves the job, the same applies to all of the emergenciy services! That's why it's so important the right people are recruited and that they have decent pay and conditions! Not what's being offered in this campaign sadly!

Is anybody else getting the following reply when they try to submit their application.
"Sorry, the system has encountered an error while processing your request. Please try again."
This has been happening for the past half an hour, I am wondering is it a fault in the system or with my application?

System has probably crashed due to the amount of usage on the site, this was expected with the amount of people applying. Don't worry the site will surely be back up before the closing date:p

I believe they would fight it for you or at least attempt to, they could put it directly to Shatter and see what he has to say!

    Worth a shot mate!
