I am way behind 8th ball here & prob haven't a hope at this stage but I tried both phone nos and got busy tone incessently. Tried the app form but it seems I have to purchase a 'doxillian document converter' for au$30 before I can open the doc. Can anyone advise what is this?

It should just open in Word. Did for me anyway.

The numbers won't work anymore, obviously they were too busy so they've been disconnected.

Surely you realise by now that any environmental concerns always come second to "de kids". As long as they're enjoying themselves thats all that matters right.

I agree that its incredibly wasteful.

Seriously, get a life for yourself.

Are you paying for the fuel? Michael o'Leary has put forward this, quite frankly, amazing gesture and people like you find a reason to give out about it. Irish begrudgery at its finest.

If you had a child, maybe you wouldn't be as ridiculous about it. I think flights from Ireland to Majorca or wherever the latest "holiday island" is are a complete waste of everything from staff hours down to airline fuel. A 3 hour flight just so a load of pissed up young lads can go and puke on foreign streets and start fights? No thanks, give me 12 flights around Shannon making kids happy every single day of the week.

i thought i had missed the boat on this one when i hadn't heard anything back by close of business yesterday and then BOOM i get a confirmation email 5 mins after waking up this morning. Cant wait for this, bringing my two boys in the plane for the first time and they love planes. I bring them spotting in Cork the odd weekend.

Big thanks to RYANAIR and Shannon Airport

Do you you walk and cycle everywhere? Do you use public transport when walking or cycling is not possible? I bet not. Car pollution contributes much more damage to the environment than aircraft pollution and that's a fact.

What about all the cars driving the short distance to all the shopping centres around the country bringing kids to see Santa?

Silly comments from wannabe environmentalists who know it all as per usual.

The same environmentalists who probably love their foreign holidays! Very difficult to get off an Island on a bike! Maybe they sail to France in a dinghy?

We did, heading with my two boys next weekend. Applied on the Tuesday shortly enough after it been announced and got the reply on the Wednesday evening. Can't wait to see there reaction to it. They have never been on a flight before.

Saw some photos on the shannon airport Facebook page and the Santa looks great.

+1 on the bah humbug indeed - think of the environment - 24 planes circling the city going nowhere.
I'm sure someone can give exact figures - but I read each 737 burns about 1 gallon of fuel a second - (or 18.5 L of fuel per seat per hour)
    Wasteful.
    http://www.boeing.com/boeing/commercial/737family/pf/pf_800tech.page
    Maximum Fuel Capacity 6,875 U.S. gal (26,020 L)
    Typical 1-class configuration 189
Maximum Range 3,115 nautical miles (5,765 km)

    26,000L / 189 people = 137 L per person.
    42km/L

or 118 mpg in old money if they were all to use separate cars.

But that's max range which would be 8-10 hour in the air

This year's offering seems to have crashed the Shannon site that is looking after the tickets.
