I serviced one of these G5BF Burner lately on a potterton statesman boiler 15 years old, lovely burner.I got a co reading of 5 on the fga, very slow doing the fga due to having to stop the boiler to remove the shroulded casing to adjust the air and then start all over again and again, lol. If the customer found dirt in the filter, there is more than likely alot of dirt in the filter of fuel pump so maybe you might get lucky it and the pump might be ok.Im not sure about the rdb2.2,maybe jimf or shane or one of the other lads might know if the rdb would work.Id be slow to change it.

you don't have to remove the cover to adjust the air just remove the little plastic grommet on top of cover and away you go adjust away

its always a hard 1 to call but usually its the bearings that go in motor so for the sake of 15eu and an extra 30mins work change bearings as well but thats usually back to workshop so another round trip

its always up to the customer and not the best time of year trying to get em to spend the extra few quid

it has only happened to me once in 4 years lucky customer understood siht happens

The G5BF was the type built into an room sealed box for balanced flue models and was used with a snorkel, the G5 and G5BF both had the shrowd on the BT.

I still have no idea what output this burner was running at, what size nozzle is fitted ?

    Its potterton statesman 65 85

The boiler is a 65/85, the burner a G5, but without knowing nozzle size and pressure (which has been tinkered with)we don't know output, if we don't know output we are just guessing on burner to fit, this G5 could have a .50 nozzle .

He told me it was serviced by a guy who changed the nozzle once in three years.of course some one could of fiddled with it but that wouldnt give an intermitten fault on a start up with an unusual noise.he says when it wont start that he bleeds it and then it starts after doing this once or twice.

Hi crock!, I'm living in the house 7 years. The first 3 years the boiler was "SERVICED" by the same heating guy. The nozzle was change once (don't know for sure, I was told it was changed). The next 3 years the boiler "SERVICED" twice. It is due for a service again now. When the pump was changed last January, I don't think it was adjusted.

just discovered how to upload pics. Hope these help.

This nozzle is a real mystery. lol

This nozzle is a real mystery. lol

Are you talkin about a nozzle for the 65/85 btu boiler, if so then I think that a .5 nozzle at 10 bar would give you a mid point output. I am unsure if I am answering the correct question here, as I find the last parts of this thread confusing.

I understand what should be there (I have the pdf) but we were beings asked if a certain burner would be ok, I simply wished to know what nozzle and therefore output we were talking about here.

Since bleeding the burner on Wednesday evening, it has fired up on each attempt. Both from the timer and manually.

crock! did the pics. help in identifying the type of burner fitted ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,013 ✭✭✭jimf

there is no reason why you cant fit an rdb as far as I can see after all potterton have fitted them to there later models but as billy pointed out what output is required any pottertons I have come across have 60esnozzles fitted as spec

as the bf hose fitted at the moment is quite rigid you may need to change that as well it may not be long enough

I did . pump was fine and all was working. A bit of a rattle in motor but seemed nice and steady.no problems with fuel supply. I changed flexible oil line and filter and firevale as it was passing oil in closed position.the burner is working fine for now but client didnt want to fix it any further or change burner because he is going be changing whole boiler in new year possibly. Its odd how its working fine now after it locking out so much.i put a .60 60s at 8.2 bar and got great readings.i seen this once before where one of the guys here on boards meet this and it kept on going and a year later I was there with it doing the same.its still going and the clients still wont repair or replace.but when I eventually have to change it then I will use rdb2.2 50 90.

They always recommend on the G5BF that the little grommet and the box cover is on when doing the FGA, real pain in the ass.

I always use a bit of foil tape it does the trick putting on and off that grommet is a royal pain in the hole

As I said previously the boiler hasn't locked out since Wednesday, confused about that but happy at same time.
crock! serviced it yesterday. I must say I'm very pleased with the level of service the boiler received. (It now seems this is the first proper service the boiler has had in the 7 years I've lived in the house) crock! was very helpful, answered any questions I had, explained all analyzer readings and never seemed to be rushing just to get on to the next one.

I would highly recommend this service engineer to anyone I know !!!

Thanks again to all who posted advice/solutions and thanks to scudo2 for putting me in contact with crock!.
    John.
