McGuinness would surely meet the freedom fighter criteria more? He actually was a commanding officer, Adams was just the political leader and strategist.

I'd give Adams credit for SF's Armalite and the ballot box strategy, whether he knew it would end up in the Hume/Adams talks, the Downing Street Declaration and the GFA, I don't know.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

How would you describe someone who detonates a bomb outside a McDonald's on a Saturday lunch time?

    Is the answer Nelson Mandela?

How can grown men throw stones at children in the first place.

    You obviously condone this behaviour!

You've said some bat **** crazy things on this thread, but that takes the biscuit.

You still haven't answered my question. Care to stop dodging and give an answer?

He's a politician ( though not a good one)who thinks he was neither a freedom fighter or a terrorist. ...Did anyone mention "delusional" in an earlier post :)

That I, or anyone, would condone throwing stones at children.

    That's a dodge.

How would you describe someone who plants two bombs, timed to go off seconds apart at lunch time on a Saturday. One outside an Argos, the other outside a McDonald's?

I lost all respect for you after the, "excuse" comment!

How would you descried the b Specials, the shankhill butchers, the ida, lvf, uvf?
A bullet was too good for the lot of them!

Fred, where are you actually going with this pointless exercise of engaging in the politics of a single atrocity?

Would you condemn the entire British war effort for incinerating Dresden, Hamberg, Berlin, Aachen, Nuremburg etc etc?

Go back and read the thread!

You fred fanboys have added nothing to this discussion tonight other than the same ignorance we've seen from the knuckle dragging flag protestors.

Face it lads. Gerry won :)

mandela and adams were involved in a lot of the same stuff. but mandela moved forward into peace but never denied his past. where as adam's "never in the ra" rhetoric makes it hard to have any kind of respect for him.

Have you never heard of screaming Lord sutch?

    Great guy.

Your hysterical historical memory is once again up for questioning. Sutch died by his own hand many years ago.

A freedom fighter who allowed himself to be corrupted by violence and became a terrorist.

When he became a terrorist he ceased to be a freedom fighter as he oppressed the human rights of his victims.

Whatever role he played, he oppressed human rights by the rule of boot and force.

I do not doubt the regime was unjust and oppressive to the utmost. But he allowed himself to succumb to dictatorial violence.

Part of the reason for the violence was not simply civil rights but to go about achieving that for which the majority would not vote for.

Anyway all NI people should have the right to live free form violence from soldiers and terrorists.

He lost the inner moral war. He lost the high ground.

Hippo, people are trying to engage in dialogue with you but all you do is come out with personal attacks and rhetoric.

What did Gerry win? The position in northern Ireland is pretty much as it was in 1922.

We in the south hate Adams for one reason mainly. Him and his crowd fought back, whereas we would have been incapable of it. Of course the IRA did horrible things but the way we concentrate disproportionally on their atrocities smacks of post colonial self loathing.
