RTÉ today published a tender for the propping of the 1961 floor slab in the Television Building. 1 week deadline for responses.

    This from the tender notice
    Short description
13084 - Structural Propping TV Building

    Detailed description
The Television Building was built in circa 1961 in the first stage of the development of the RTE site, while in 1980 the building was extended to its current size. A structural assessment has been completed for a portion of the first floor slab which is located in the 1961 phase. The particular portion of slab was chosen as it is subject to the highest level of loading from technical equipment. The assessment has shown that the load carrying capacity of the existing slab does not comply with current codes of practice and in particular is susceptible to a punching shear failure. As a short to medium term measure, it is proposed to provide propping at the relevant column locations.

    Response deadline (Irish time)

It's an old building and it's costing them an arm maintaining it.. Plans for the new planned building is on hold because they have no money.

they should sell the whole site and move to a location on edge of Dublin. rte d4 must be worth a fortune, even at todays weak market. might be better long term than quick fixes to a 50 year old building

Didn't that involve selling off part of the RTÉ Campus with the money reinvested in upgrading the existing facilities. With the Dublin property bubble beginning to reinflate maybe we'll see the project restarting in the coming years.

That is the plan followed by the Beeb. They closed White City and moved north. Property is cheap in Belfast - big open space near the Titanic thingy.:D
