Yep it was around €280 all in with the cable you really need for component connection. Certainly a space saver and will do the job for me.

Hopefully it turns out to be worth it!

I will be greatly looking forward to your smutty photoshoot when it arrives :)

If Monkeykubes photo's are anything to go by you'll really love the device.

It's still in customs! Doubt I'll receive it before Christmas at this rate! :(

One of the key differences between the Framemeister and the XRGB-3 for example, is compatibility. According to the wealth of information available, the XRGB-3 doesn't recognise the PC Engine at all and has sync issues with the Saturn. The Framemeister on the other hand offers full compatibility across the board, even with the Neo Geo AES/MVS/CD which earlier models also had issues with because of it's bizarre sync signal. Same with odd PCB's from Seibu Keisatsu, which the XRGB-3 wouldn't play ball with but the XRGB-2, or maybe the XRGB-2+, I forget which now, were able to handle correctly.

The XRGB-3 is a ten year old device so in some respects it is well out of date with what is available today. That said it's not an entirely redundant device, just that the Framemeister ticks pretty much every box across the board.

Really looking forward to hooking it up and getting some gaming going soon!

Scanlines are a must for the classic games, but I'm not sure you get the same "feeling" from LCD VS CRT.

I did a short video recently of my gaming setup, and about the 1min mark you can see the scanlines on a 4:3 Dell LCD. Its a vga dongle Andrew76 sourced for me, does the job but doesn't give the same "feeling". Hard to quantify though but certainly is a massive space saver, if like me you're using the monitor to do other things, i.e. 2nd PC screen and also has s-video input.

It's the old argument between digital and analog.

Analog gives you that warm 'glow' be it sound or picture - something you can't really get from digital. It always seems cold in comparison.

That and there's nothing quite like being continuously shot in the face with electrons. :pac:

Your gaming setup looks amazing by the way.

PCB's from Seibu who? :(:( (Google says the above is a cop show?)

The new layout looks brilliant ondafly, excellent what you've done with the space and really nice gear too. Had a laugh at the download speed, I can only dream. :D

What's the song playing btw? Cool it is. Although you could've just let the amazing Raiden Fighters music play instead... :P

cheers - space in confined, but I think I managed to fit everything in there. I still much prefer the picture from a CRT, but its handy to have the xbox360 ready to go also on the LCD.

Kano - another life; kind of like the music in Initial D, Italian Disco from the early 80s

And the colour gamut and black levels of a good crt are usually so much better than LCD. But with OLED screens starting to come down in price I'd like to have a bash at running some retro consoles and arcade pcb's on at least a 23" OLED screen using the Framemeister to see how it looks.

You need to emulate the " CRT glow " , 15 K refresh rate flicker for older games and tube curve , LCD even with great scanlines still looks sterile and dull compared to CRT .

This really does improve things a lot. I set this up with MAME (there's also a good example of it with 3D Sonic on the 3DS) and the difference is huge.

So you're really emulating the CRT itself rather than just the games with scanlines.

They did a nice job with Sonic , even blurred it a bit to emulate CRT pixel bleed .
Still prefer the razor sharp 3D version though .

I think the Framemeister has a "Retro" mode that emulates the curvature of the CRT. But you're really never going to get an exact replica of true CRT.

Hopefully in 10-20 years we can just 3D print out own CRT screen :)

We'll be simply bending a flexible display around a crt shape in a few years!
I don't think there's a noticeable curve on my AWSD monitor though.

I've an Egret 3 with probably the same monitor as you. Yeah they are pretty flat. In fact if you are replacing the screen you need to make sure you get a pure flat crt. I know, I've replaced it twice :)

Well the previous screens didn't break, I just wasn't happy with the quality from them. The first screen was dodgy anyway(the one that came with it) so I eventually got another sent from the seller with a new chassis as well.
And then I found a brand new one for sale in Japan, never used and decided to go for it after owning the cab for about a year or so.

And what do you go and display on that beautiful flat CRT? Bloody karaoke. :P

Will be interesting to see the results of the Framemeister yokeybob. A quick Google tells me it's an upscalar with built in scanlines - so basically just lets you play old machines on a HD display with decent image quality? Presumably makes it easier to record gameplay as well or something? Must be a serious piece of kit for the guts of 300 quid though, cool.

All this talk of CRTs reminds me I must take some snaps of my recent-ish addition to the family.

Yeah, you've a pure flat tri sync. Theres something similar in your 29 inch trini. Hence the heavier than lead weight!

The monitors in mine are both curved 25s. Far far lighter. One man lift rather than two.

Bah, whats all this talk of needing two people :)

Remember to quote me on the above when I do eventually drop or neck a monitor by doing it on my own :D

You either have arms like fork lifts or your house was built on a layline which gives it some kind of anti gravity properties :D

Just have a good looking woman watching you, you'll lift it with one hand, and book the physio later when she's gone

I just remember how much I paid for the screen, how bad I'd feel if it broke and it gives me super monitor lifting powers for a short time :)

If anybody is getting a mini don't know if it was mentioned but another cable you would need would be a Euro Scart cable. The included cable is wired differently for Japan and should not be used.

Yep! picked up a UK 240V power supply so don't need a step-down, a D-Terminal to component cable, JP<> EU adapter cable and one of their new Super Famicom RGB cables.

All set! Just need a damn Framemeister now to get going!

Gave the ramemeister a quick go tonight. It is absolutely jaw-droppingly good. Seriously impressed.

Christened it with Nexzr. Lovely and colourful. Then tried Rayxanber 2. A speedy game that is handled superbly.

Lastly I popped in Super Darius 2...

Anyone got any spare pants? :o

And that's on a flat panel?
What a way to play Gradius 2, from the 2nd best Shump franchise. (After Raiden, natch)

Yep. My Iiyama monitor. Default Framemeister stock settings FW v1.3.

That's a compressed JPG from my Galaxy Note 3 Camera taken this morning. :)

Any chance of some more pics?
I'm working on some fine tuning with the MAME HLSL code and some comparison shots with that excellent framemeister mini would be handy.

Here's a snap of Gradius 2 on MAME with my current HLSL settings(I'm slowly getting it to look as I want it to).

And without any filters(nasty as foook).
