I am just watching The Big Bang Theory on RTE 2 HD.
How come on terrestrial it looks like a poor upscale, while on UPC it looks like full HD?
    Confused:confused:

big bang theory not in hd so both are upscaled but you probably get a higher bitrate on upc

Is it that RTÉ are just not buying the stuff in HD? tonight's TBBT (latest in the current series) will be screened on E4 HD on Thurs & C4 HD on Sunday, all with dolby 5.1 sound. These programmes were most likely acquired post RTÉ Two HD launch, so why not buy & screen the HD version?

It could be that the contract they have with the studio is for SD versions only ( remember the original contract would be from 2007 ).

As an illustration of that sort of issue the BBC had a problem 23 years ago with getting a Stereo version of ST:TNG because the original contract was for mono versions only and the studio wanted the BBC to buy it again to get a stereo version for use in Nicam broadcasts .

The BBC said no in that case and continued to broadcast the mono version
