How did Casey do at the weekend?

Lively when he came on, made a couple of carries. Was part of a scrum that mangled Perpignan at the end for Coughlan's try.

Good news for Munster; Camille Lopez will miss Saturday's game and is out for 6-8 weeks after picking up a knee injury on Sunday.

Their options are to move Hook into out-half and play Joffrey Michel at FB, or to promote Tommy Allan from the bench. Either way, Perpignan are going to struggle to field a competitive side this weekend and may just throw their hat at it altogether. They will have Lifeimi Mafi available after suspension though.

OK, it's official, Perpignan are throwing the game.

"Perpignan have announced that James Hook, Luke Charteris and Dewaldt Duvenage are on leave this week."

Like, they're in the middle of an injury and suspension crisis and they send three of their key guys off on holidays? I know they have Top 14 games against Stade and Toulon coming up but still...

Emm, you know it was only a gag, yeah?

Of course, this is a rugby thread.

Jesus, similar to Metro last year.
Can understand them not sending a full strength team away, but this is ridiculous. This type of stuff from French sides completely distorts the competition, not that I'm complaining from a Munster POV!

Good news, Munster need to keep the pressure though.

    Fair play Paulie.

Casey looks so happy with himself. He had a very solid cameo.

They know they are out and need a good run in the Top14 to keep pace there.

I haven't seen the game on TV yet but I thought that scrum could have gone either way, we were standing, they were standing then we got the shove and they crumbled and broke away from the bind.

Having read through most of the amtch thread last night some folk were critical of the ref - more or less that he was a homer, well from being at the game he missed a few incidents that he could certainly have penalised them a bit more.
The only dodgy call for me was the late tackle on Casey (I think) and possible could have penalised Murphy when chasing back for that ball.

Murray has signed a 2 year deal with the IRFU.

    From the IRFU facebook. :)

Some great and not so great Conor Murray news.

    Munster Rugby ‏@Munsterrugby 1m

Conor Murray on board for another 2 years! Injury update - He suffered medial ligament damage to right knee, ruled out for up to 6 weeks.

So he's probably miss all 3 remaining HEC games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Yes oh yes! Well done IRFU. However only two years is interesting...

All that's left now is a quality centre and Fernandez Lobbe.

Fantastic for Munster. Murray is playing a smart move with only doing a 2 year deal. He'll (probably) be worth even more come the end of the World Cup. Smart business decision.

Who would be the centre options?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭jamiedav2011

They're not in anyway out if they didn't want to be. Three wins, two at home and denying Munster a LBP would put them joint top, with Munster to visit Glos.

    It's a cop out.

Where's Rightwing now giving out about the difficulty of this group!

I wonder at this; don't all IRFU contracts seem to be for two years these days?

Obviously we don't know the details here but you'd think the IRFU would be trying to lock guys in for as long as possible.

I don't know and with the English clubs suddenly cash laden we will find it difficult to attract big names.

Fair enough, it's not over for them just yet.
I think their loss to Clermont changed their mindset to Europe and they have a laissez faire attitude now.

I don't think Munster could have had it any easier. Edinburgh are rubbish, Gloucester sent their seconds, Perpignan are missing many key names and have decided to rest players for what was always the toughest match in the pool for Munster.

I still can't believe we lost in Edinburgh, that was just terrible.

Great news on the Murray signing front, not so great on the injury! Is is just me or have Munster been pretty unlucky this season not only in number of players going out injured but the length of time they're out injured for?

Don't really get French clubs obsession with Top 14 over everything else, makes the big fuss over French clubs possibly forming a new competition with the English ones look even more stupid!

For all the fuss about Pro12 sides and how we can focus on the HEC - it's the French sides who throw in the towel who are doing real damage to the tournament. Very disappointing.

(Now that I've said that, we're probably now going to get tonked next weekend.. it's karma)

    Murray!!! :D

Absolutely delighted, right up there as our most important player...

The injury is a blow though, although if Perpignan are going to play a weakened side, hopefully we can take advantage of that. Either way, it's likely to come down to Kingsholm for top spot.

And he's supposed to be out for "up to six weeks"; starting from the day of the Perpignan game, the Kingsholm match is five weeks away...

Sheridan played very well on Sunday so it is not quite as bad as it could have been. Would be sweet if he can make it back in time for the Glaws game though.

MRSC reporting that sky have moved the munster match on Saturday from the red button to the main feature. Huzzah!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,901 ✭✭✭Howard Juneau

I have every confidence in Sheridan, he's got the overall game, just needs to make sure his passes go to hand, if he forces things a little he tends to throw some loose ones.
Perpignan will be tough, but he's not a raw kid, he should flourish as the starting 9 & with Keats beside him I see no reason why we shouldn't take the win

I thought Sheridan was ok rather than great. He was noticeably taking a few steps before getting the pass away and several of his passes were quite high - but given he hasn't been around the Munster senior squad for long and it was his first HEC start, not bad at all!

Is Keatley definitely ok for next weekend? On the basis of Sunday's game, JJ still needs a bit of time, IMO.
