Apparently he played there in South Africa...... and has played there a couple of times for us. Not sure if it's a long-term option or not, when he has played there it's been for limited periods or against weak opposition.

    Speaking of number eights: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/cardiff-blues-star-robin-copeland-6386236

I'm going to call it and say that this means CJ won't be kept on. Both Butler and Coughlan are contracted till 2015.

Swapping Copeland for CJ is hardly an improvement other than Copeland being IQ.

    Injury news:
    Colm Kinsella ‏@ckSportLeader 1h
Luke O’Dea likely to miss 8 weeks after he fractured bone in a thumb in Munster A's B&I Cup defeat to Plymouth #munster #shannonrfc

He's going to slip down the pecking order very quickly if he cant get a run of games

bunch of bitter men, finally caught up with them

Care to elaborate on that? My only experience is just from reading the blog that didn't come across to me.

I'm not saying it is an improvement or it isn't, but Stander is going to make way for Copeland if someone does have to make way. It's a shame for CJ but I'd rather invest time in guys like Butler.

Poor LOD, he is really becoming the forgotten man this season. With the others injured he might have got a game or two over the Christmas period.

Illness afaik. will be back soon

    what are you on about?

Shame to see LOD out again. Will really struggle to get game time if constantly out injured. Interesting to see we've signed Copeland. Good player but do we really need him?
Covers 4/6/8 but we'll only really see him as 8 wont we??

    illness.....

    classy...

Thought the RedScare was a bit militant but still enjoyed reading it

the site says nothing about illness.. either way they are a bunch of horrendously biased and bitter individuals.

the less of provincal bickering they promote the better.

compare their blog to whiffofcordite or dementedmole and it doesn't stand up.

It's a personal blog ffs, not the Irish Times, they can be as bitter or twisted as they want.
WOC and Demented Mole are hardly completely unbiased.

not claiming either are unbiased but neither are so bluntly bitter...

they did some good video analysis but some of their stuff about current leinster players was shameful.. thankfully all their content is gone.

    Bitter?

You may not look like what they produced but like WoC or DM they put a lot of time and effort into that blog because they enjoy the rugby, like us. I didn't read all their stuff but I didn't notice anything outrageously biased or bitter.

Again, it's a personal, non monetised blog, go read something else if you don't like it tbh, that's the beauty (or ugliness) of the internet, anyone can start a blog.

It wasn't bitter at all, thought they were very good but slightly one eyed in their few of some of our players

Sad that they've had to pull the blog

It seems you are the bitter one! I enjoyed the blog, it was munster blog and not focused on other teams.

Probably couldn't have put it better myslef.

I enjoyed their analysis and predictions but didn't like some of their wumming but at times I get the same feeling when reading WOC and Dementedmole.

From what I've seen of him definitely not, 8 is his place

By the way Dougall should of got man of the match in my opinion, did some class stuff in tight. Don't know if he can progress beyond rabo/ squad for hc but definitely got good attitude

OK I don't particularly rate Copeland, he's decent but no improvement on what Munster already have IMO.

However, Munster do need squad depth, they always seem to be just an injury or two away from a full-blown crisis so if Copeland can challenge for a first-team spot and improve the overall options available, then great.

If it's a case of him coming in to replace someone on the way out, then the squad depth doesn't improve at all.

Stander would want to stay in Ireland, no? He's a project player right, and must not be a million miles away from eligibility?

Oh, I thought it was 24 months ago.

How would he been seen by SA were he to return there?

This is his second season, if he signs on for another year he's IQ

Would have to guess Stander has to be leaving or this signing makes very little sense to me. Similar to GVDH it seems to be taking a punt on a guy that doesn't seem to be a step up from what you have in a position of depth rather than targeting an area where you are weaker.

Coughlan is 33, has had a few injuries recently, perhaps he's thinking about hanging up his boots?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

I would prefer to keep Stander than to sign Copeland tbh.

Copeland has certain qualities that make him very useful, but I'm not sure he's exactly what we need at the moment. Long-term, I'd like to see Butler grow in the 8 role. Copeland is a good ball-carrier but some elements of his game are questionable.

Stander is a very talented player, and I think he's starting to show it more and more.

He arrived late though so it wouldn't be until the following AIs World Cup when he'd be actually qualified. He'd be very lucky to make the extended squad at the minute and competition looks to be getting more intense for the backrow by the time he'll be qualified so apart from Munster having a spare project spot I dont think it'll make much difference.
