Take a long cold shower and go out for a long walk in a tshirt , without drying your hair.

It'll give you pneumonia, but that can be cured, unlike the common cold.

Do nothing and the cold will be gone in a week. Take lemsip, go to bed and drink plenty of fluids and it will be gone in 7 days.

Just remember to wash handies, and don't leave your grubby paw prints all over the place to infect others.

Better still wear sack cloth and ashes and have carry a bell "unclean , unclean" so the rest of us can treat you as the social pariah you have become.

If you survive we may let you back.

    Echenatia is your only man.
It actually boosts the activity of your immune system so it fights off the cold.

Look its a virus, mind yourself, plenty of liquids and I prescribe a box set or two.

Don't bother pumping your self with Vitamin C or Echinacea, both are a waste of time, same goes for Lemsip. Save you money for the box set, whiskey or that **** you were promising yourself.

It doesn't, or at least it's not been proven to be anything other than a placebo. Although there may be something in the belief that it's working - pretty much like all Herbal remedies.

Agreed there have been no official double blind studies.
However it is recognised as an immuno booster. To the extent that transplant patients who take immuno suppressant drugs are told never to take echenatia as it increases the immune system and increases chances of rejection.

We find it very effective with our children.

Put the juice of half a lemon and a spoon of honey in a mug and top up with hot water, it's the tastiest way to deal with a cold. For the nuclear option mince a load of RAW garlic, mix it with some mashed spuds and get it into you; it'll clear your sinuses and is also anti-bacterial. If your feeling brave you can just chew a raw garlic clove, but be warned: it tastes like burning.

Flu is worse, I grant you.
I had the flu jab in November 'cos I'm a carer so I won't have to suffer that badly, but even having a cold is just the pits.
It just makes me so tired and worn out.

If you are a carer can you work if you have a cold or something contagious?

I'd get in the sauna and have a good sweat, drink as much water as possible and rest as much as possible.

Have the flu myself and feel awful, just typing this feels like climbing a mountain, with a ruck sack full of rocks. God make me well, I'll be good from now on, I swear. I'll give money to charities and do charity work for the poor and the homeless too, who have even less than the poor. I'll never watch porn again either, apart from Seymore Butts' movies, but that's more comedy than anything. Let me live again, Clarence, please let me live again.

Mate if you can type the above then you don't have the flu. A heavy cold maybe but not the flu.

I had what I assume might have been the flu about a year ago. I wouldn't have been able to post on boards that's for sure. Ha.

Wash your hands regularly with soap and hot water.

Will do much more than any homeopathic cure will ever do.

I care for a family member. They've had the necessary flu jabs etc and they already have a cold at the moment so we're both suffering lol.

I'm sure the anti-bacterial properties of the garlic will do wonders for a cold...i.e, a virus!

I can feel the beginnings of a cold coming on; stingy sensation in my nose and throat, blocked nostril etc.
Are there any cures to stop a cold in its' tracks or am I destined for a week of snots and sneezes?

I find a few hot whiskeys usually help but I have a thumping headache the next day.

6 x 1000mg of vitamin C tablets will kill the cold. (you cant overdose on vitamin C)

There is no such thing as Echenatia.

I'm guessing they meant Echinacea but you knew that, didn't you.

    Worked for me ...

If the cold is prolonged change the air in the house by opening all doors and
Windows for a few mins. Stuffy air carrys germs.

Steam helps the lungs. Towel over a basin of hot water.

That honey from Nz is supposed to be good.

Watch a couple of episodes of Eastenders. You will subconsciously realise that life could not be that depressing, and your body will actively defend against any cold symtoms.
    If that doesn't work, have a ****.

Vitamin C is water soluble (Vits B and C), you pee out any excess.

You can get hypervitaminosis with fat soluble vitamins (A,D,K) and that's pretty serious.

*Serious answer, not really much you can do. Rest, drink plenty of fluids and let your immune system deal with it.[/QUOTE

Follow the advise on the serious answer. Three days coming, three days with you, and three days going.

Not scientific or anything, but I remember one year during Nanowrimo (http://www.nanowrimo.org) people saying that they had a cold and when they wrote it into their story, giving a character a streaming cold, and then wrote about the character being cured, their cold got better!

I'll let let the doctor know you disagree with his diagnosis.

Oh and doc, can you let me know why I was so weak I couldn't so much as have a shower all week and was lying in bed unable to catch my breath during that time, shivering cold with stabbing pains all over?

    Good man yourself.
