They were held up in customs, according to the boys in drinkstore. They only actually landed in their warehouse tonight.

Yeah, there's 3 up on their website now. :)

Oh good Jesus, I'd better ring them and get some more details and pop in!

Under-carbonated? That's an understatement. Just poured mine and had two mouthfuls and it's completely dead. Nice though, reminds me a lot of St. Austell Tribute with a slight taste of apples from it. If it had a bit more carbonation, it would be far better IMO.

I have only had Jaipur in bottles but think that Foam and Fury on draught utterly kicks bottled Jaipur's ass. Dare I say it but I think Jaipur is a bit disappointing.

Had Jaipur on cask, keg and bottle. Consistently excellent imo.

Foam and the fury is delicious, but not quite there.

Ipso, I thought the Racer 5 was amazing. Had the Hop Rod too, not as nice but still quite good. Am going to get their red ale next time I'm beer shopping. Racer 5 was probably the best IPA I've had actually. Maybe it being 7% or 75 ibu is an unfair comparison to other IPAs.

The racer 5? It's a decent IPA. Would definitely buy it again hope it becomes a regular over here. More the merrier.

Yeah, meant the racer 5. I relly like it, only had it a couple times after overlooking it for so long.
I think it has a distinctive taste. Would piney be the best description of it?

Are you in California by any chance (seeing you have access to a range of stuff)?

No Dublin, I usually visit Redmonds/Baggot Street, occasionally the former gets in beers that the others don't seem to. Think I'll definitely get Racer 5 again actually.

€4.20 for 355ml bottles of Stone Pale Ale in drinkstore.

Thanks, but no thanks, it's good beer but it's not that good.

I'll probably try one of each.

The tropical flavours in F&F reminded me of the similar tropical flavours in Kipling/ Jaipur.

The rest of the flavours of F&F was more American hoppy styled beer.

I get wht you're saying ciaran, it's got those same pineapple/mango/lychee type flavours that Kipling has that most IPA's don't.

It's the kiwi hops I reckons, they seen to be more "tropical" tasting than the American hops (which F&F also has).

So it is kind of Kipling meets American DIPA in style.

Considering it came from fecking California, it's not exactly old either, it's less than 3 months old now, it's as fresh as you're going to get it in Ireland anyway.
The fact is that hops have started to fade long into the two months. Don't get me wrong, I'll be buying a few of these and I'll likely enjoy them a lot, but to be fair to the beer this is something you have to keep in mind, it will not be the same as it would be fresh.

Founders All Day arrived the same month it was bottled. Takes a few hours more to fly them in from California than Michigan. Certainly not as fresh as it could be.

I think you are seriously over estimating how quickly hop acids degrade and to what extent.

If it was a 500ml bottle it would be understandable, but when a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is €2.80, and in my opinion a better beer anyway, there is no way I'm going to spent an extra €1.40 for a stone pale ale.

I'll probably pick up on of each just to revisit them*, but I doubt I'll be buying them often.

*haven't tied the oaked arrogant bastard yet, so that will be new at least.

Not really fair to comparing the 2 breweries on price. SN is over 4 times the size of Stone and I'd imagine that they're properly set up for the export market.

Had the Stone Session IPA on cask last night in Spoons. Was alright just, not worth the effort of someone flying over to brew it.

Going to a comedy gig tonight in a place that has no craft, might crack open a Hoptimum and null my tastebuds. :D

They cost about the same to buy in the US (you might actually find stone's cheaper in some places) and I'd still pick Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale over Stone's, because it's not just cheaper, it's a better beer.

That's because Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale is the best beer in the world!

In my day students drank warm flagons of cheap cider and were happy about it ;) You'll be complaining your selection of Beluga caviar is over-priced next Seaneh, hah

Brewed a Pale Ale today and had no Pale Ale on hand to drink, criminal. Popped out for a selection, Dales, SN, Sly Fox & a cheeky 4 quid bottle of Racer 5.

Got a free sample of McGargle's Granny Mary's Red Ale this afternoon. Looking forward to trying out what's a very new drink from a brand new local brewery.

Tom Nielsen, Sierra Nevada’s senior research analyst focused on hop degradation, says that their research has shown that after about two and a half to three months, hop aroma in a packaged beer, derived mainly from beta acids in the hop flower, has already started to diminish significantly. It’s a sentiment backed by Patrick Langlois at Great Divide in Denver, brewers of notable hoppy beers including their Fresh Hop Pale Ale, Titan IPA, and Hercules Double IPA. “Hops tend to dissipate in three to four months, which is why that is the recommended shelf life for most of our beers.
& that is a pretty conservative estimate compared to most others I've seen. It's entirely possible these guys are underestimating the effect of time, seeing as these breweries export their beers far around the world and most of the time their beers would be >2 months old on the shelves.

I was told in Drinkstore that the Stone beers coming in have been bottled only a couple weeks ago. Not a massive fan of Stone Pale (would rather have Ruination & Sublimely Self Righteous) but if it's that fresh, it might just be worth it.

Got it in Kenny's. The guy there was telling me the brewery will be opened in February and, as you said, it's currently being brewed abroad.
They have a new brewer (ex Guinness guy apparently) who is overhauling all of the beers. Apparently he wasn't happy with the existing processes.

nice little offy in Kennys, had planned on calling in today but it never happened. have they any draught craft in the pub. up the road in the County bar they have a few craft beers on draft plus Pilsner Urquell.
