5 Lamps Liberties Ale - not a bad beer a good beer to get people started on for hops exposure.

It's very light sweetness like caramel followed by some hops and not too carbonated either.

Would like to try a draft version also.

just got two new ones in work today from 5 lamps, black pitts porter, and honor bright (i think its called that) red.
The labels are brilliant, forgot to bring home to try but will do tomorrow.

I dont rate 5 lamps lager at all, but really enjoyed the liberties ale, hopefully these two new ones continue the improvement and live up to the cool labeling.

From now on Im only buying beer at Drinkstore, doesnt matter that its the other side of the city. Sick of the southside beer specialists not bothering to put new stock on the internet and picking the beers up two weeks after the lads in Stoneybatter.

Just opened a bottle of Crew Ale Werkstatt IPA. About to open a Brew Dog Libertine Black now.

what does everyone think of the drinkstores prices compared to the rest? are the always on par or the lowest around, not taking into account special offers?

Seem to be cheaper than Redmonds - one stand out example being the Fran Well Jameson Stout - 11.99 in Drinkstore, 14.99 in Redmonds

Also do a 5% discount on Irish beers for Beoir members

Usually I wait for whatever Drinkstore has to filter down to Bradleys. That's the way it seems to go, hasn't let me down since. Both well priced IMO. Right now, I'm not drinking beer, but Jameson 12yo Distillery Reserve. Not bad at all...

Drinkstore is reasonable. It's usually the cheapest for some of the things I like. I'm not always able or in the mood to go that near towm, and I'll go local, so when I do go there, I stock up.

Drinkstore hits the sweet spot with selection/prices. Redmonds is generally more expensive, but some beers are cheaper there (Goose Island three sisters, Victory when they still had it, Founders 4 for 10, Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye etc etc) and they also have some beers Drinkstore doesn't, like the 8 Wired ones. I haven't noticed any major delays compared to Drinkstore, often the beers are on the shelves like 1 day later, whatever. It's on my commute so I keep tabs on that place on the reg. I also like Baggot Street Wines, and they seem to get the 8 degrees beers quicker than any other offie. Also they stock 3 Fonteinen which I haven't seen anywhere else. It's usually more expensive than Redmonds, mind.

None of these has big fridges for their hoppy beers, which I find odd considering that they are so specialized.

In fairness to Drinkstore, they have matched that offer.

I always tend to get my stuff from Drinkstore. I like to browse for stuff online and then go and pick them up. There's always parking outside, plus it's nice to be able to go and have a chat with the lads to see what's coming in or maybe something I've missed.

Drinkstore is my place to go to also find the deals very good in general and Ken in there always trying to meet my hops needs.

I like to go 1-2 times a month and buy a stock amount. Lads are good for a chat too.

I use Molloys in Clonsilla too for general needs like Brewdog/Dungarvan general kinda stuff and if you buy 4 beers they always give you a free glass. Have a few nice Porterhouse and Paulner glasses.

The amount of glasses I have from there, haha. I've actually had to say no to a few, as I've no room for them.

On a different note, I haven't seen Magic Hat No. 9 anywhere in a good while now. Kinda miss it.

I give them to the brother in law who always breaks his and he thinks I am great.
Haven't told him I am getting them free yet.

Edit : Actually hope he is not reading this now lol!

They gave me a brilliant glass in there before that I use for any pilsners.

I'm still yet to try the actual Fruh beer, though.

The shelves in Redmonds are chilled, no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I liked it's fruityness. The last time I had one was in April, in the states. I used to see it everywhere.

Yeah, but if they were stored actually cold, a lot of the hoppy beers that don't shift that quickly would age slower.

Actually, just remembered it's apricot what it tastes like, not peaches. Do iced teas come in apricot flavour? For me that would be as close as you can get to #9

Yeah, no, I'll take the beer if I can find it

Sorry I also thought #9 was a bit meh and everyone I knew was giving it great reviews and convinced me I would like it.

Just wasnt what I like in a beer.

It tastes like a light lager that somebody had added fruit extract to it.

Free glasses you say, I must find this offo, I'm not far from Clonsilla

Goto the back wall to the "World of beers" section.
The top 2 shelves usually have some sort of glasses arranged there.

Lots of Tiger glasses (not pint) there at the weekend.
Lots of Paulner tall glasses too.

Craft beer pubs usually have loads of old glasses they can give away as well. If you go into the B&C you'll notice shelves of glasses above the taps. All the ones on the top shelf are from beers they don't sell anymore (and probably never will) so they'll be happy to hand a few out.

Anyone tried any of the Traquair beers on offer ?

I got 2 bottles at home was thinking of trying this evening.

    Traquair House Ale
    Traquair Jacobite Ale

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭drumswan

Rustbucket Rye at The Headline. Lovely.

Lads, quick question. Which is better, Franciscan Well Brewery Stout Aged In Jameson Casks or Carlow Brewing O'Hara's Barrel Aged Series Leann Folláin Irish Stout

I have a bottle of each tucked away to drink over the Christmas but I also want to buy one for the father in law. So what do you reckon?

I think the FW edges it, for me. And people were saying this year's is even better, which I haven't tried yet. They're both really great.

They're both nice beers, but the Jacobite has the edge as far as I'm concerned. Spicy with a comforting alcohol warmth. Perfect for the weather that's in it at the moment.

Are they on special somewhere, or do you mean "on offer" as in "available"?
