When I was a child, trees went up about a week before. Now it's 3-4 weeks before. I like Christmas but lets face it, it's overload central from now on.

I saw a few up last week, never mind since yesterday! :eek: and what's the bets that the people who are first to put them up will be on Facebook Bitching and moaning how they are sick of Christmas on December 26th and tree down by the 27th

I usually try to get my tree up the weekend closest to the 8th or if I am mega busy just least the weekend before the big day. But seeing as I am preggers with twins and can't tie my shoes laces let alone decorate a tree, my sister and sister in law will be putting mine up this week for me because we are pretty pretty sure the babies will come early and we want it all done beforehand just in case!

Yes, it went up on Friday to coincide with the late late toy show,it comes down on the 8th jan 2014 :-)

In this part of the world the tradition is to put the tree up on 8th and to remove it after Jan 6th.
Alternatively, or at the same time, we may prepare the nativity scene (also known as crib), with the same dates.
Nice to read that traditions are the same in different countries.

No, wouldn't put it up this early. But I did see some houses in Sallynoggin that you could probably see from space! Have been like that for a couple of weeks now. Looks very tacky and will cost the community welfare officer a fortune on esb bills.

Never got the buzz of xmas on the 3rd of 5th of January, its over by then, everyone is back in work etc.

Should come down new years day.

If I had my way, I'd reluctantly put it up on the 24th and take it down on the 26th. Unless you've kids, it is the stupidest thing ever. Think about it. It's a tree (which belongs outdoors), you drag it in and cover any natural aspect of it with all the shiny crap that you carefully stored from last year

The whole point of a Christmas tree is about bringing something inside that really belongs outside.

Put mine up yesterday,i think when you have young kids who are all excited about Christmas you have an excuse to put the tree up early because in a few years time they wont be bothered with it all

We still do that in ours. Sunday 15 is d day this year. The novelty is long gone by the 24th if you put em up too soon.

i read it somewhere and it scared me,

if you actually think about it per child, the first 2/3 christmases they don't really 'get' it, and by 10ish they stop believing,

which leaves only 7 'santa' christmases with them, and possibly only 4 of those where they are genuinely excited by the magic of it all,

so for the sake of 4 christmases out of the 20+ years of christmases would you still begrudge the parents who want 4/5 weeks of enjoying their child's christmas?

All our decorations are up since yesterday - took me about 5 hours (had the tree and garland up on Friday night but needed to decorate tree) and I had a pounding headache afterwards but it was worth it

And I still love Christmas and I will never get sick of the lovely lights

I went to the garden centre yesterday and bought a christmas tree. The assistant asked me, "Will you be putting that up yourself?"

I replied, "No, you sick fcuk. I'll be putting it up in my living room."

In the last years a more environment-friendly awareness pushed most of the people to get a synthetic tree, a plastic tree. It lasts forever and no trees are killed for this celebration.
So, when it's over you store the tree along with the decorations in a cardboard box in the garage

I had intended to put it up next weekend but my husband went out for a walk yesterday and impulse purchased a tree. I had to go collect him, standing by the side of the road holding a tree

put up mine yesterday and all my decorations - had to do it as next weekend I am having a dinner party and won't have time - didn't light it up tho, so nobody knows any different. Delighted I got all that work done tho, all I have to do next weekend is flick a switch and its all lit up.

The thought of putting xmas decs up is very exciting -however the reality of it tho, is that it is a LOT of hard work and mess. Took me ten hours altogether to get everything up and the house cleaned afterwards

The tree / decorations always come down on New Years Day. Being non-religious the 6th of January has no significance to me and I dreaded going back to work with all that work still waiting.

OH disagrees, but whatever year he magically becomes willing to do all the work himself he can take them down whenever he likes (within reason of course).

Will probably put them up this week.
