It's down to perspective at the end of day. Everyone has their own opinions on something, so not everyone is going to be 100%. Some people choose to protest, some people aren't interested in protesting. Some people might be annoyed and angry, but they might also have reservations about protesting. Some people might not be angry at all, and actually hate protesters. There's just so many probabilities.

Let's not forget that protests in Ireland have not been done right over the years. Some protests have been hijacked, and ruined by people who might claim to have a similar agenda to the protesters but make things worse. There's only been like one protest that was successful and that was the OAP protest years ago, all others have failed. When you take that into account, why is anyone surprised that some people would rather not protest, mainly because they've lost hope or don't believe protesting will work. Either that or they just don't care.

Ireland doesn't like protesters and prefers to villanise them.

    See ESB workers & ASTI.

a right wing protest ( akin to the tea party movement in America ) would never work here as most irish people are statist in outlook , plus the media hate right wing ideals and would potray it as something sinister

Protests in democratic countries tend not to work for a variety reasons, usually down to bad organisation and a lack of clarity amongst those protesting.

Media potrayal is another big one but I think you meant to write "hate left wing ideals"; most media organisations being moderatly right-wing in outlook.

Are we statist? Probably - but more because we have a bigger need for security than morals. I'd disagree we are any more statist than the US, though.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

If the government try to start censoring the internet, that would get me out on the streets.

The bank bailout was a one off payment? So, we have it all paid off now?

    Grand so.

Yes, it was. No, we haven't. We seem to prefer to borrow hundreds of millions every week to give it to scummers who never worked a day in their lives and just spend their time reproducing like rats.

The bank bailout was probably the greatest act of national treason ever comitted in this state, but it was survivable. Constant defecits to raise further generations of leeches is not.

Try not to worry too much about the future generations. The previous generations gave us what we have now for good or bad and our descendants will just have to manage as best they can. The whole world is in debt up to it's eyeballs. Something which I can't figure out because some country must be doing the lending.

    What is a sheeple?

Sheeple is a word used by a professional protester with too much time on their hands. The word is used as an insult by these people against others for not blindly following what they believe.
It is a combination of the word sheep and people and it suggest one blindly follows the government or has a lot of body hair. The only way for one not to be called a sheeple is to blindly follow what they believes.

An other characteristic of the people that use this word is their lack of PR skills. They believes that insulting a person is the best way to get said person on their side. These guys normally attend protest such as the national strike day and spend all the time before hand hyping up the protest as the start of a new world. They also think that they are doing you a favor by blocking roads preventing you from getting home after doing hard days work. It should as be noted that your income tax helps the social welfare pay these professional protesters so they can insult you and ruin your day.

as is every person and every business. you see nearly all money in existence has been borrowed from somewhere and that somewhere is borrowing from another identical somewhere and very few actually have their head above the water. This is why its like the world is about to end if banks stop borrowing or countries lose their quadruple A rating.

All this is thanks to fractional reserve banking. We are living in a massive cluster**** of debt at every level and are completely dependent on it. If everyone paid off their debt and refused to take out new loans the whole economy would go to sh1t in no time

    Unobjectively speaking, no.

Sheeple refers to anyone who will go along with the majority of his or her peers, usually through ignorance or insecurity.

In left wing terms, as you say it can refer to professional protesters, but also to anyone who opposes or agree with a political or social movement simply because that's what most of his or her peers do.

In right wing terms, it tends to be someone who will go to work, go to the pub, have a family and then complain about this not being what the really want from life, or about how the government makes it so hard to maintain such a lifestyle, by increaseing taxes or allowing mass immigration or whatever the media tells him is the route of his ills. They will, however, NEVER protest and always keep their head down so as to maintain their position within the flock.

Man is a social animal, and a sheep is his closest relative most of the time.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Hey Irish Bob. Well a Tea Party type movement IS sinister - no spin needed to illustrate that. Independent Newspapers and the Daily Mail and the red-tops subscribe to the same right-wing loopiness that you do, so nah... you're wrong about "the media".

Gotta love the crustys, anti capitalists and anarchists who who protest against the very thing that pays thier dole money and protects thier right to protest.

Anarchists should go to places like Somalia, plenty of anarchy there.

Anti capitalists should go live on a desert island and live off the land. No fb, twitter, iPhones or Internet.

Crustys should just stay at home and smoke more spliffs.

I'm all for practice what u preach tbh, I respect someone who does.

As for protesting, I've never felt that strongly about anything to do it. I'd protest against a ban on Bulmers mind you.

no they don't, they protest for a fairer society, namely to not pay back gamblers and financial terrorists.

Very silly to believe all protesters are the above type, and why shouldn't they protest about issues in their own country?

The stuff about "They're all on the dole" is bemusing too. People on the dole, even those who are trying to find a job (i.e. the majority of people on the dole) get slated for sitting on their holes... yet when they go out and protest and be some bit proactive... they also get slated; yet they're not sitting on their holes. Damned do, damned don't.

Not another one of these 'burn the bondholders' threads. We should protest about social welfare abuses and public sector largesse.

With you on this one Camel...with you on this one .

How would every person be in debt in Ireland? One million people are private home owners without any mortgage debt. There is something like €130 billion in deposits owned by private individuals. Some people are buying houses with cash at present. €6 billion spent on alcohol last year. Are you sure about your figures?

You misunderstand me, I'm not knocking legitimate protesters. I'm giving out about the eejits who ironically protest against the thing that puts bread in thier mouth.

    Thank you, jeffrey Lebowski.

The ecomomic problems have been well documented, i don;t need to go into them as such, but I do need to point out that the nation does NOT have 100%, and those that are in a job are NOT working 168 hours a week.

Also, if someone is protesting, then they're obviously not "sitting on their holes" now are they?

And who are you decide that there is something "wrong" with those who chose not to march about in loony leftie organized "protests" (usually hijacked by Eirigi/SF and the like).

Stop being a pussy and show no fear towards the loonies like Eirigi/SF. Its just an excuse.

What's more silly is to assume I'm saying every protester is a crusty, anarchist, anti capitalist. I'm talking about a select group of people who I hold in contempt. I'm all for protesting against what you see as an injustice, rising taxes, abortion, for/against gay marriage etc etc....

The people I speak of are anything but proactive. And being on the dole doesn't make you one of these people. Theses types are free loaders and a pimple on the ass of society.
