Being a dad of a teenage daughter I can tell you there are plenty of smart well informed teenagers out there.

None of them can spell or punctuate though, I'll give you that!

There is plenty of interesting information out there. More so than ever in history. Just dont look for it on UTV at 8pm on a saturday night.

People have always enjoyed watching the bizarre. i view X-Factor and other reality tv stuff as modern day freak shows. People will always want to watch stuff like that. I am no different. Although my vice is streaming torture snuff. Each to their own

Yes. People become too dependent on the social media for information. Social media also tries to put us humans in constant fear, so we will depend on them

I agree that if X factor had been around 50 yrs ago people would have watched it. Where human beings are concerned there will always be an audience for conflict, drama, human interest stories etc.

The difference nowadays is that the entertainment industry and the media have countless more ways of feeding people the lowest common denominator, and people obviously lap it up. Also, there is less snobbery around nowadays. The idea of a tv presenter adopting a posh accent is crazy. There is less importance placed on being, or pretending to be smart, articulate and interested in 'the important issues' There are millions of people who just want to watch people make a tit of themselves on TV and the TV companies are happy to give it to them.

We have more access to celebrities nowadays. If the internet had been around fifty years ago people would have been begging Marilyn Monroe for a retweet.

Speaking of which I think her acting ability was dire and her level of talent was on a par with the likes of Jennifer Lopez.

X Factor could be looked at as either Opportunity Knocks with higher production values or Eurovision on a budget and with a few sob stories thrown in.

Elizabeth Taylor was a pretty crap actress too IMO.
