It's 5 year now since ye had to travel up the country in late Sept.
It must seem a lifetime to a Kerry man used to dining at the top table!
Probably more of a worry is its 20 year since a minor title was won.
I've a great gra on me for Kerry football.

It pains me to correct u but it was only two years ago my friend. 2011 v the Jacks. We came away with our hands hanging tho. Five years since we brought sam home alright.
20 years! Christ! Where u at it?

How are you on the Chains?:D

It was all in the back pages of my Tables book in school...........

A quarter of an acre, measures one chain by two and a half chains :)

You're right of course. How could I ever forget Cluxtons late free!

No, I wasn't at the 94 Final. I was at the hurling alright that year. In fact we won it!!!!!!!!!:D
    Time sure flies.

Edit: I'd sooner you correct me than leave me wallow in my own ignorance :-)

It is indeed Perches............ If there are more than one. Otherwise 5 and a half yards is a perch. According to below.

I hear some people talking about weight in Stones, we would always just say Stone. I'm 13 Stone weight, never 13 Stones. Maybe it's a regional thing?

True but you refer to them as roods and perches you never say rood and perch might mean something different :)

We were lucky enough to have several class acts around that time, but I suppose it's Brian Whelehan you're thinking about. Johnny Dooley, John Troy, Martin Hanamy and Johnny Pilkington were lads that dont come very often either. Throw a couple more Dooleys, Kevin Martin, Hubie Rigney, Kinahan, Hanniffy, Duignan and a decent Keeper Byrne and you start to see why Offaly punched above their weight in the 90's.

Wasn't it. I never saw it coming, not that level of performance from Kerry. Super game. It's a bit worrying the level of talent the Dubs have at their disposal. The levels of physical conditioning the top teams are at too is scary.

My own young lad is 10 and his main man is the Gooch! I must swing down that way some time that he might meet him:cool:

    True for you.
The gooch is accessible enough in fairness to him. If the training sessions are not behind closed doors next year twould b handy enough. Watch training and then meet the lafs after
Autographs and that. The young lads round here get him for summer camps and that. Great for young lads.o thpugjt we would beat the dubs this year but we got beat by the bench in tbe end.

A chain by a furlong gives an acre. A furlong was the distance two oxen could pull a plough before resting. One man, one ox and one plough could do one acre per day in the Middle Ages.

This thread had the lock symbol earlier, it must have been in error.

Hopefully the mod will now delete the new thread I started as this is where it all happens.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,570 ✭✭✭Rovi

I closed this thread at 8:50, deleted a bunch of stuff, and reopened it at 9:02.
We'd usually temporarily close a fast-moving thread when we're doing modstuff, as otherwise you could get content posted in the interim which might be problematic or lead to confusion.

You started the new one at 9:00 and I missed seeing it when I re-opened this!

I'll remove the other one now.

Fuming here, was out farming this morning with the 6 yo when he asked me the question that no one wants to hear this time of year. A young one in his class told him Monday that a certain man did not exist. I assured him he did and gave him the usual examples. I have two older kids and have warned them never never say anything. The joys of it.

If they do they can call it the sudden stop, why do such pictures have to be printed, its not as if it makes any difference, all we need to know is the person has being killed unfortunately

I've just had to delete another load of posts on this very subject!

There WILL be an opportunity for you all to discuss the general background to this sort of incident and how we (ie. the whole forum) proceed from here, but it will most certainly NOT be here in Chit Chat.

Give us mods a little while to formulate how the discussion might best be framed and how to facilitate it without it becoming a post-mortem on one particular person, and we WILL bring it back to you.

In the meantime, this subject (and nods, winks, and hints at it) are expressly prohibited.
    No more warnings.
