    HitachinoNestCommemorativeAle.jpg

8% Hitachino's Nest Commemorative Ale. Some ok flavours. The alcohol comes through too much, and it's a bit mediocre. Not this round, Japan.

My other half surprised me with another bottle of Franciscan well Jameson stout! Absolutely lovely I still think €15 is a bit steep for one bottle though, I have bottle 330 of 2000 this time:)

Ha, same here. Herself bought me one today, but I do think its worth the price for the sheer quality of it.

I hope it gets rid of the taste of coriander this weird little beer has left. Why so much coriander?! :/

A bit? It's more than just "a bit" ****! It's absolutely woeful. It's no more hoppy than the likes of Punk. Maybe it would be better on draught or from a cask but the bottle I had of it was dire.

Anyway, started off with a Full Sail and I reckon it's the best bottle I've had of it yet. Carbonation was just right and full of flavour.
Now polishing off a Porterhouse Hop Head. Not nearly as nice IMO.

Wouldn't say woeful, perfectly drinkable like but nothing special, no hop profile to speak of and any spice type flavours felt like an afterthought. Definitely nothing special and not worth the money...

Was in Chicago earlier in the year, great town for beer, was harder to find a pint of macro-swill than decent craft stuff.

Had loads of lagunitas and stone brewing co and of course the goose island stuff. Enjoy;)

I wasn't really into hoppy or strong ales last year and I didn't fully appreciate SN Celebration.

Now I'm fully appreciating the sh*t out of it.

A growler of Metalman pale ale from L Mulligan Grocer followed closely by a Founders Breakfast Stout.

    Last week - WED

Galway Hooker PA, always dependable, price up 10c to 4.60.

Green Bullet, American-style PA, lighter than the Galway Hooker, not remarkable, but not bad, 4.00 per pint, some sort of special price

Sierra Nevada PA, lovely, you would remember this more than the Green Bullet, dearer at 5.50

    THUR

Cask ale in the Bierhaus, Galway, advertised as from Cork??? 5.20 per pint, I always describe cask as "creamy", goes down easy.

Salthouse - GBB red ale, 4.55, not mad about this at all, it took effort to drink it

GBB Stormy Port, much better than the red ale, 5.00

Fuller's London Porter on cask = delightful, lovely, also 5.00

    FRIDAY

Pints of Guinness in the Central Bar, Woodquay, where there were just two customers, even though pubs within 500m were packed. Price = 3.80. I will return.

More Guinness in Hosty's pub on Bohermore - how can they sell it for 3.30? That's 90c cheaper than other pubs within 1km.

McGargles ipa. Picked up a 4 pack of this new irish craft beer in a spar shop on merrion row. Was very good, was like 5am saint. 8.99 e for 4x 330ml. Enjoyed them alot.

    Five Lamps Black Pitts Porter.

Poured with a surprisingly thick and resiliant head. First sup, I wrote it off as a weak porter with not a lot going on, but by the end I had drank a pleasantly balanced beer. It's pretty safe, but I enjoyed it.

You're saying that a beer that says "never established" and "brewed in the EU" and has talk of brewing in bath tubs on the label is a fake Irish craft beer and is in fact a marketing gimmick?
    Never!

    Never!

It's owned by an Irish company, they are currently building their brewery here, it's contract brewed while that happens. This is extremely common.

The marketing is just awful though.

Last night I enjoyed Galway bay Red ale.
    Enjoyed it a lot actually.

Then tried the Galway bay stout which I took 1 sip of then knocked over my glass and when I tried to save it knocked over the rest of the bottle all into the sink.

Yep heard that from a distributer, stone rumour was from a retailer

    They are both due soon-ish.

Not sure if it will be before Christmas or not though.

Also, Ska Brewing Co. have hit our shores as of the other day and kegs of Modus Hoperandi and others are ready to go.

    Was out most of yesterday

Had Dark Arts on tap in O'Neill's, it's one of my favourite pints.

Was drinking O'Hara's Pale Ale in Mulligans (Poolbeg St). They also had Sierra Nevada but it tasted a bit stale to me. Could this be due to a low turnover? The O'Hara's was quality

Was hoping I'd make it to the Brew Dock as I wanted to try their new double IPA but wasn't to be.

It's a different beer to the bottled version.

yeah, I've brought growlers of it home with me instead of buying bottles of it
