I work shifts and have a Phillips one, gf works in a chemist so got a good discount, it defo works at getting me out of the bed. Did anyone mention what wattage the bulbs are as this is important. I agree they take a lot of button pressing to set the alarm times and I use the manual every time.

Does the Lumie Arabica light box in Boots also function as an alarm clock or is it just for continuous light, i.e. can I use it to set it to come on in the mornings to wake me up?

Lumie Arabica is just a light as far as I can tell. No alarm / wake up function.

I've just ordered one of these - it's back in stock on boots.ie at the same price. Really great bargain, thanks madrabui, have been wanting one of these for a while. :)

If you have a Samsung phone then on an alarm try the Smart Alarm function. If you have it you can set a gentle alarm that slowly increases in volume. Also the phone screen displays a blue colour which to me resembles a blue sky. Anyhow might satisfy some without forking out more money ;)

if you were going to spend enough to buy the phillips one, i'd just go all out for a tiny bit more dough and get a lifx lightbulb instead and do it properly. :)

    http://store.lifx.co/products/bayonet

you can use it the same way as the phillips yoke with the light coming on gradually to give you that sunrise effect, but it also doubles as a 'do everything' bulb, with multiple colours, dimming, even strobe and disco lights. :)

That looks fairly cool. Might give that a purchase. Not much on the site about it though. Did they raise enough from the kickstarter to go ahead with production?. You can only preorder from the mobile site

yeah, one of the most successful kickstarters of all time by all accounts. :)

the final product is looking quite different and you wouldn't exactly be kitting your whole gaff out with them at that price, but a single one in the right place would be a good buy, esp. with a 25 year lifespan.

although i do like the idea of a bunch of them all being networked together and controllable via your phone over wifi. :)

pre-orders are for the 3rd batch (batch one already shipped and batch 2 sold out) of bulbs now which they say will ship in Q1 2014, but no idea on specific dates yet i don't think.

Lifx looks sweet. However its a bit steep considering its just an led bulb coupled to some what would imagine fairly simple stuff with a WiFi chip. Great idea though, I would buy a dozen if the price comes down to 20 euro range. I am sure someone out there is working on developing as WiFi enabled light holder that can take any bulb.

i feel exactly the same, but whilst they are taking pre-orders months in advance for an $89 bulb because they can't keep up with production, they're not going to lower the price, even if it is cheap to make. supply and demand and all that. :)

i'm sure once they can ramp up production and reduce production costs, we'll see a price reduction, so i'm just going to wait it out for now. might get one though in the new year, just to see.

They are honoring this price - at least three of us got ours already.

I plugged mine in briefly and it's very bright indeed, however, it looks a bit blue/cool like a cfl - I was hoping for something that would emit full daylight spectrum.. isn't that how these yokes are supposed to help your senses?
