What affects river discharge?

    I was just wondering the different aspects that affect river discharge and especially the effect precipitation has on a rivers discharge?

    Precipitation will influence a river's discharge.

    Increase precipitation leads to increased groundwater levels (usually)and increased surface water levels leading to increased river discharge due to the simple fact there's more water as basic as it sounds.

    I'm more of a Hydrogeologist than a hydrologist/river scientist these days so my scientific explanation is a bit hazy.
