This idea has been posted on thread since page one.

    It is nonsense.

There is absolutely nothing to be learned from perpetrators.

The reasons for their heinous crimes range in a spectrum: in the case of the subject of this thread it was put forward in court that drugs including meth cocaine and ghb were partially involved in some of the crimes. Even starting from there there is no point in looking for answers (at least from the point of view of neurological or psychiatric reasons) in the minds or brains of abusers. Other perpetrators have been shown to be victims of past abuse, yet others are of low intelligence, others are shown to be emotional cripples, others are just plain evil (read psychopath/sociopath).

The idea that expense and human capital should be expended on studying these creeps to see if they can give a clue as to preventing future instances of such abuse occurring is sadly naive but to be expected when so much money is involved and so many people with diplomas in psychology are roaming the streets.

This thread shows so much justified anger, and rehabilitation is a myth, but the idea that this guy holds the secret or part of the secret to protecting us or anyone from such heinous crimes is a cruel taunt.

Everyone reading this thread, if they think about it, can tell that this guy did what he did because he wanted to get his rocks off. In a society where even Charles Manson and Ian Huntley file appeal after appeal while living in comfort, where is the deterrent?
And if you are in a place where you like the idea of doing such unspeakable things, that prospect matters.

Option A - we do everything we can to identify and root out paedophilia

Option B - we allow paedophilia to continue trimming the weeds as one pops up

I think I'd prefer if society picks option A.

I don't pretend to be any sort of an expert on the psychology of.paedophiles, but this seems to be so much more evil (for want of a better term) than a.sick old man who likes touching kids.

This seems to be some sort of sadistic depraved Hindley/Brady esque type character who was only.just.starting on a journey that was going God knows where.

Death is way too good for.him. I hope, right now, he is being violently gang raped.

From reading a few of the comments on the other forum linked from a couple of years ago it seems this was a person seeking out more and more extreme ways to get his kicks. Groupies progressed to sleeping with guys too and then this, along with copious amounts of drugs.

He clearly doesn't give two f*cks about anything apart from his own satisfaction. I don't buy that he was a guy who couldn't fight the compulsion to abuse kids. He actively sought this out and it is even more sickening that there are women out there prepared to allow their kids to be abused (and to abuse them themselves) just for some attention from a 'celebrity'. They are the ones with the mental health issues if they were able to be manipulated in this way.

I hope the kids are being raised somewhere safe and loving.

We can identify and root out paedophilia by properly detecting and sanctioning offenders.

If we start saying we can learn anything by studying offenders through examining them through psychological means is a slippery slope towards the GULAG.

Some Music to set the mood.

Fairly shocking. Does this mean we aren't allowed to listen to Lostprophets anymore. Because I liked a few of their songs.

I removed the link in my post to their music because I just wanted to.

I don't want to listen to their music.

Christ that line about the mother sending a picture of her child saying her child needed to know that she was not loved.

And that line from the guitarist at the end Lee Gaze ...it is totally lost on him ...

    These people are ****ing evil.

    What a total bastard.

I mean it's totally insane I feel sick and upset.

It just seems that however much society does these people still operate to harm. I dunno how can they not feel nurturing towards the complete innocence of children?

There needs to be research in prevention. I mean can we stop these people becoming this way? I am not suggesting rehabilitation is possible.

I read the above post where people said there is nothing to be learned from perps but really is there no way to stop the future ones? I mean even research into criminality rather than psychology. We seem to be able to prevent other crimes. They have the do not rape ads for adult rape but the truth is there is no pleading with sociopaths. But maybe we can intervene in other ways.

Yes I think it is important to stress recent research suggests that there is no link between being abused yourself and abusers. They do not have a higher rate of being victims themselves.

I do not like the idea of an incredibly dark story getting darker that's the only reason I do not want him to be sexually attacked. I do not believe in 'corrective rape' it is pointless and creates another visceral crime that hurts our society. It also creates another rapist.

Evil is a descriptive word it is not a substance. Saying there is no such thing as evil is like saying there is no such thing as 'nice' or 'kind'. As in 'you took in a lost kitten? oh that was a kind thing to do'.

This was a pure evil thing to do and I am going to be upset by this for the rest of the evening now. But those kids ....it will haunt them forever.

I never knew it could get so bad. I never knew they could go THAT far. Jesus. What some people have to live through and get over from childhood!

    I feel so upset.

Actually you might want to put TRIGGER WARNINGS on the link ...just saying some on here might need it because of things they have been through.

Society has picked option A. There are special police forces dedicated to catching these people and professional help available to them should they choose to avail of it. Criminologists, psychologists...the list goes on.

Option B is only really applicable to the Catholic church.

There are some crimes for which no sentence is enough.
I'm not going to rant, the justifiable anger out there is only mirroring what 99.9% of usfeel.
I'm going to watch my kids sleeping for a bit and try not to let that story get too far into my head.
It is truly a sad thing, I hope the kids get a chance in life, and those found guilty never see daylight again.

Genuine question, how does anyone want to represent a depraved monster like this and offer a defence. Lke I get that every one has a right to a defence but any right minded solicitor wouldn't be within a hundred miles of this case surely?

On topic, I've read both the BBC link and the other more detailed one and I just can't fathom the level of just sheer evil in one person. To want to do what he did is beyond words and I hope he's not coming out for a long time.

'Twas a somewhat glib remark in response to another post, catallus, forgive me. I'm aware of the recent BBC scandal and children's home scandals as well.

However, I don't want to take the thread off topic arguing the rights and many wrongs of the RC church, so best leave that particular discussion for another time :)

Fu(k I can't stop thinking about this :/ I can't imagine willingly allowing anyone to hurt my baby in any way.
It's just... Those poor kids, even if they don't specifically remember, how can someone not be deeply, badly, forever affected by that?
I was assaulted once when I was a teenager, at least I had the chance to put up a fight, but those children & babies were completely, entirely defensless.
Him and those mothers have betrayed the trust of pretty much everyone they know & who cared about them, as well as ruining a huge chunk, if not all, of those kids lives.

Really? Which others bands have been involved in something like this?

It is understandable to be angry, I was too, reading the details. We can perhaps take some solace in the fact that the court said that if there was actual rape then it was minimal, which is why the man in question pleaded guilty to attempted rape amongst other things and no trial ensued.

The idea of understanding this level of depravity is what feeds the idea of rehabilitation. The vested interests think it would be nice to understand why such a person does such things. The people with common sense would suggest he is an evil meathead with full control of his brain which he used to trick a star-struck teenager into letting her child be used as a sex-toy. They would beg to differ. Who's correct?

Glib remark or not, feeding discrimination against catholics is not cool.

Indeed - what worries me, is that reading about what was done earlier left me with no emotional reaction at all (whereas a lot of other stuff would easily illicit a reaction), meaning either that it's so fúcked up and an assault on the senses, so as to be hard to illicit a reaction, or that I'm already pretty jaded due to all the crap I've read and learned about over the years.

One thing to be thankful about here, is that for the remainder of his life, this guy will probably live in fear of the guard around him slipping, and of someone getting through - contrary to those wishing his death, I hope he lives out the remainder of his natural life, and suffers every moment of it in fear. Even if his prison sentence someday ends, I can't imagine he will ever be safe in society again.

Sad thing is, they will probably go on to have more children.

If and when they do,the children should be immediately snatched from them after they are born and given to proper mothers and fathers who want kids.
They do not deserve to even look at children-including their own.

It's a bit off to suggest the band were the issue or that this is a problem with "Nu-Metal" bands from the era. One member of the Static X was done for doing 2 minors, one of whom it seems he kidnapped. That doesn't mean it was something all of Static X were into. Heck, he was booted from the band as soon as they heard about it.

Yeah true, I think I may have failled miserably when making the point. I was thinking that some people might go back to the bad stereotype of metal = satanic music that makes people want to rape babies. As far as I know it is just the guitarist from Static X and the 'delightful' chap we're discussing in this thread that have ben convicted for this kind of crime

He is not profiting from crime.

Who gives a sh1t, itunes should take down their music out of respect for his victims. Have a heart would ya.

Of course they can, it's a private service, they can sell whichever music they deem appropriate. Absolutely they should remove any trace of this twisted rat from their service.
