Had the young lad out for an hour after a fox, shot one, saw another. That'll be my lambs a bit safer in Spring.

Im not well up on them , but I think a mate has a semi auto rifle

You won't (legally) get an automatic anything in this country (alright, alright cars I know... I meant guns). You will get a semi automatic centrefire (say .223) IF you have a very good reason, it will be classified as a restricted firearm, so more loops and hoops to jump through as opposed to a bolt action. Something like an R15 made by Remington.

For fully automatic you'll have to join Sharps lot, or the other lot.

Don't want the hassle. Feck it. Don't fancy sharps lot or the other lot either. Presume the other lot is the gaurds and not the IFA.( wouldn't join the IFA for love nor money)

What would you like to use the auto rifle for ?
The airsoft stuff has taken off well around here , a lad at work brought some kind of auto rifle(airsoft ) in one day awhile ago and we were left black and blue after it :D

AR15 type semi-automatic centrefire firearms can be, and indeed ARE, licensed to private citizens in this country.
Not a lot, but they do exist.

They fall into the idontlikedalookodat category of 'looks like an Assault Weapon' (as defined by Irish law), and are thus classed as 'Restricted Firearms' and demand a higher level of scrutiny and approval by the Gardaí.

It CAN be done, but it's NOT easy.

I'm no longer up on the amount of hassle. But I've handled a semi auto centre fire R15 and seen it kill foxes and rabbits, so they can be got. I imagine it's mostly down to the "good reason" and level of security in your home.

The other lot aren't the cops or the IFA but you're fair close with the letters lol.

cant even imagine the reason that you could use nowadays as ive a mate that is a competition pistol shooter and he barely got the pistol licence this year and he had it for years. They are clamping down like mad and if you never held a pistol licence before you wont get one now.

That a euro licence he has so, you apply for them in the UK and Germany and it allows you to carry weapons in most euro countries

A semi automatic would be excellent for two things, follow up shot on a wounded animal, or for instances of multiple animals being in the same place (seen 6 foxes in the same field more than once).

Whether the chief supernintendo would see either as good reason, I don't know. But they're the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

As far as i know it also allows a concealed weapon too in whatever euro countries that allow it. Each country has their own restrictions on types of firearms tho

So hold on what's the story with semi-automatic rifles? I've a Remington 10/22 semi-auto and was hoping to bring it home with me, will I be able to licence it?
