    No No No.

That's not how you get labelled a beer snob. It's when you drone on about your own excellence in quaffing beer while criticising others for their choice that gets you labelled a beer snob and rightly so.

Are you picky about your tipple? Get excited when your local gets in a new brew you've not tried before? Are you all about the cask? Well then this thread is for you! Share your excitement, your favourite beers from ale to hefenweizen to imperial stout and everything else out there!

What's your beer of choice at the moment?
Stocking up on anything for Christmas?

My stash for the winter includes one each of the following:

    O'Hara's Barrel Aged Leann Foláin.
    Franciscan Well Jameson Stout.
    White Gypsy Imperial 'Russian' Stout.
    BrewDog Cocoa Psycho.
    BrewDog Tokyo*.
Black Sheep Brewery Imperial Russian Stout.
    Goose Island Bourbon County Stout.
    Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout.
    Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout.
    To Øl Black Ball Porter.
    Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout.
    Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus Classic.
    Trappistes Rochefort 10.

I'm also hoping to receive a delivery of 6 very fine bottles from a nice little place in the west of Belgium. ;)

That said, I'd happily drink Beamish or Guinness all night in a place that pulls them well.

Living in Cambodia at the moment and would kill for any ale or stout, a nice pint of Guinness. None of them can be found here really and I'm fed up drinking generic fizzy lager, even if it is only $1 a drink.

Except it sorta is. There was a thread a while back where people were absolutely insisting that folks couldn't possibly tell the difference between a budweiser and some craft beer or whatever, saying that if you gave a craft beer drinker some bud and told them it was brewed by monks in Belguim they'd say they love it. A surprising amount of people really don't seem to think there's any difference between beers and that someone who says they prefer the tastes of something else is just being a snob and is only drinking it to be cool or high and mighty.

Whoever calls someone out over drinking craft beer, will more than likely themselves pay more for something in their life that they prefer the quality of.

"Ah when it comes to Steak, ya can't mess around"

It's weird, so many people I know with a chip on their shoulder about others drinking craft beer spend loads on expensive food when they're out. Wouldn't be caught dead slumming it in McDonald's!

    Is it that much different?

Would agree, now I don't mind a pint of carlsberg or a guinness etc, but if I'm out and there's a decent weisse beer or craft beer I'll go for it every time.

I never push my beer taste on any one but often times the oul bud or coors drinking brigade will mock my beer choice which always starts a beer debate. They always argue that more people worldwide drink my beer therefore it's better, which I always argue that more people eat in mcdonalds worldwide than in michelin star restaurants.

Had a bottle of BrewDog's Dead Pony Club at lunch today. It was lovely, really excellent balance of sweet & bitter. And only 3.8%! I would link to their webpage, but there is so much bull**** on there it's best left alone.

One of the main things I miss about living over here is the lack of local bitters. One of my favourite things in England is going into a pub in a new toen and finding out what local beers they have.

    Well that's just dumb.

    Reverse beer snobbery.

Budweiser is the nicest beer in the world. Fact.
A lot of people simply do not like the taste of strong tasting beers, so bud is very popular because of this, I see nothing wrong with that. I remember a guy in work being shocked when I said I liked beer after I mentioned drinking it with dinner. I see bud as similar to dairy milk, a mild tasting version cheaply made but sometimes priced high as a huge portion of the price is to cover expensive advertising. Many dairy milk fans simply do not like strong 90% cocoa bars.

The guy in work drank it solely to get drunk, and because it is far more expensive to drink spirits & mixers in a pub.

I heard from a commercial brewer that budweiser do actually use potato by products in the beer.

I tried their IPA and was mighty impressed. Don't see their drinks around much though.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Cuzquena is my favourite beer of all time, but you can't get it in Ireland.

Down here in Galway, we're spoiled for choice. Salthouse, Cottage, Bierhaus, Oslo and all those do some lovely beers. Even O'Connell's in Eyre Square have a white-label stout that I'm partial to. Neachtain's do a Bonaparte stout that's really good as well.

Take-out, I like the British craft ales like Bombardier, Old Speckled Hen, Spitfire, anything with a WW2-themed label is usually good

Beer tent is open this eve, so I'll be hitting the litre of dunkel until sleepytime!

A pub called P.Macs has opened opposite the Hairy Lemon at the top of Drury Street (used to be Bia Bar). They have the IPA on tap and also stock the likes of Brew Dog and other craft beers.

nice spot too for a few casual pints!

    BrewDog 5am Saint.

When I first took a sup, it immediately became a firm favourite.

If they have it in a pub, I'll choose it, but I would be someone who would try anything new in a local if it came in.

The Town House have a decent selection too, they had Delirium Tremens on tap at one point.

I might have to pop to the beer tent at some point too :D

Going to try the new Galway Bay beer later, 'Of Foam and Fury'. Have high expectations!

Had some last night. It more than met my own expectations. By far their nicest beer.

There was an almighty night had on that Delirium Tremens tap in the Town House the night after my sister's wedding! The owner is going out with a friend and band-mate of my brother and on getting talking beer with her in the Cottage she insisted we had to come down. Fell out of the place at god know what o' clock in the morning!

I love craft beer but really can't afford to enjoy it as much as I'd like to. :(

There are two O' Shea's Red at home with tonight's name on them though! :)

    Rice. It's brewed from rice.
Unless the line is three feet or less between keg and tap you're wasting your time. Beer has to be shifting, not standing. That's what I can't understand about these craft beershops in my opinion, they're carrying too much stock.

A lot of places are doing it different than the Irish long line system running to a cellar.

Most place I see have a through the wall system that taps directly into the walk-in behind the wall or have the refrigeration directly under the bar.

    Like this....

    http://www.micromatic.com/beer-questions/what-direct-draw-dispensing-system-aid-166.html

Nothing sitting in warm lines in these system...you can also run tower chillers which will chill the last inches of lines.

I'm also betting these places clean their lines a hell of a lot better than most pubs. I took over running one place that did not have the lines cleaned for two years!

Watching the NFL last night I saw an ad for Sam Adams Winter Lager, any of our Stateside correspondents have anything to say about it?

McHugh's Off License in Artane is my go to alcohol supplier. They always have a great selection of craft beers and I recently tried Paulaner's Ocktoberfest brew. Deliscious, refreshing and moreish. Also got a nifty glass tankard! :D
I tried the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale recently. Sweet Jesus that stuff is bitter. I like a bitter pint but this was too much even for me.
I'm really looking forward to the Boards Beers on the 21st as it means I can wet my whistle with pints of J. W. Sweetman's yummy Porter Brew. Gorgeous stuff it is!
