Considering changing from car to van/jeep

    Hi folks,

Bought a 05 Avensis last October but it's proving impractical for my work, farmer (basically it's too clean and I don't want to dirty it :D ). Do about 15-18k miles a year roughly. Would intend pulling an 8x4.5 double axle live stock trailer at times (sheep with a deck/feed, fertiliser etc) mart and shifting animals from place to place.

I'd be thinking about a three seat van. I don't suppose there's anything out there that could tow the trailer and be easy on juice as well as it'd be my only vehicle. I'm only looking for options at the moment. Was poking around DD looking at VW Transporters and Hiaces, don't think the hiace would have the pulling capacity though?

I had been thinking originally of a commercial 4x4 jeep like a Kia Sorento, people seem to say good things about them, not three seater I know.

Would appreciate a few suggestions if ye have any :)

    Thanks.

    Bump :)

Trailer weighs something like 680-720kg, max the sheep would weigh would be around 1200kg.

Jeep is a brand name for a car COMPANY http://www.jeep.ie not a descriptor for every 4x4 type/style of vehicle.

It's the gross weight of the trailer you need to know not the weight your towing. Your going to have to check the DGVW of the trailer, IIRC the RSA call it MAN, and see what vehicles can tow that weight. Do you have an EB licence as your heading for 4 tonnes minimum combined DGVW and there is a clamp down on trailers and licences, you may even need an EC as I'm not sure if the new EB allows that much weight to be towed.

I rang the maker about the trailer, they gave me numbers for two different models, so lets say 680kg + 1200kg for the stock in the trailer would make 1880kg. I assume that's the gross weight?

    What is DGVW & MAN?

I don't have an EB license at the moment, but I don't own a towbar nor trailer at the moment either so that's grand for the time being :)

Is an EC the fabled artic license?
