Why do people go to midnight launches and queue for potentially hours, when they can just pop in the following morning and collect it (assuming they have it preordered).

Is it fear of not getting one ? Or just the atmosphere of the event ? Or just impatience ?

I preordered around the 13th August in Gamestop in Parkway, Limerick. Went in a few weeks ago when I read the tweet on their forums about everyone guaranteed a console on launch if they preordered before the end of August. Manager confirmed it after ringing their PR guy. I wonder is this really true or just what they hope will happen ?

For the Xbox I want the place I'm getting mine to do a midnight launch so that I can download the day 1 patch and Fifa overnight, and get to playing them Friday, as I assume it will take a good few hours to do these downloads.

Don't think the PS4 will be as download intensive on the first day, so midnight launch for it is not as much of an issue for me. But if they do a midnight launch, i'll be there so that they don't sell out of any decent bundles they are doing.

I'll be popping in the following morning, happy enough with that. They said they'll keep it for 48 hours so nothing to worry about.

Same here. Assuming I actually get one. If they get the stock they are expecting, I assume they will ring people and invite them to come to the launch.

Going to get my receipt at 9, have it all paid off already and then heading to the pub, will go back down around half 11, they only have so many and have only told so many to come in, so no point in queuing for the night when you should be in and out fairly quickly seeing that you will have no walkins[/quote

Do you not already have a a receipt from paying it off or is there a specific receipt for launch night?

Think I'll do the same apart from the pub part!

That is something I actually forgot to ask, I do have a receipt for it for though, will go into them tomorrow.

For me it's because of I don't trust anyone in a brick and mortar shop when it comes to reserving something. The atmosphere can be good at times, hopefully better than the likes of GTA where its all teenagers. I took 29th off work but will go home download updates etc and then wait till the morning to start playing it.

    Hard drive upgrade ,

I've been watching this thread very carefully on the hd upgrade issue.
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=716288

I was gonna get the HGST 7K100 or the SSHD 14 ,but after reading what I have over the last week I might just wait till next year and get the newer WD 1tb 64gb flash SSHD or even the 2 tb drives that are coming out next yr. The Seagate 8gb SSHD seems to be quite limited at the moment with the amount of flash memory and its 5400 speed .The fact that the HGST is 7200 speed will give you more consistant results. I think I will just wait till the new drives become availible in the new yr.

    Heres a 16gb nand drive,

I put down my last payment in Xtra-Vision, Carrick-on-Suir, earlier today. They said they don't know of there's going to be a midnight launch yet. They said they can't reserve bundles and all bundles will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Hoping to get the Killzone bundle with the camera and extra controller myself so will queue early for either the midnight release or opening the following morning, and try to be one of the first in line. Now I hope family members will buy me FIFA, NFS and Battlefield 4 for Christmas. :D

A little bit of all three from my point of view. If I thought I would be waiting for hours, I don't think I would be too bothered but I think stores will be anxious to close again so I don't expect it to be that long on the night. There wont be much shopping around so I dont think the time to put through 1 transaction will be too bad.

I was also taking Friday off work to play it so I didn't want to spend the time then. Get the kids off to school and then click into action. Turns out I cant take the day off so it is not quite such a big deal anymore but I am guaranteed the killzone megabundle so I want to make sure I pick it up in case someone accidentally gives my one away.

Also, this will be the first time I go to a midnight launch for anything, there wont be another new playstation console launch for 10 years (guessing) so I think that part is about experiencing the atmosphere. Then it's away home, set it up and download all the updates - play a game or two for a couple of minutes (hours) to make sure it is all working fine then off to bed and work soon thereafter.

This is the lastest from Amazon

"Customers who pre-order this console from November 14 will receive their consoles after Christmas".

Oh Lord why was I foolish enough not to put a deposit down.

Does anyone know where you can put a deposit down and get one in time for christmas.

I rang gamestop today and they told me there was no chance all booked out.

I feel so sad poor Tiny Tim wont get his PS4 for Christmas.

Just rang gamestop in Parkway, Limerick. Ordered 10th August. The manager said I am definitly getting a PS4 day 1. So good news.

The xbots are already posting one star reviews on amazon uk quite sad really as these fake troll reviews will turn potential buyers away who know nothing about the childish fanboy wars.

Without paying over the odds your best bet is still Amazon, even though they wont guarantee you one before Christmas. Aside from that queueing early in Tescos and/or Argos seems to be the way to go as they are not taking preorders (though nobody seems to be able to get a straight answer out of them about what stock they are getting and when)

I didn't get a call, might have to ring them, when did u pre-order if u don't mind me asking?

some good news lads for walk ins

playstation 4's will be available on the 29th in all argos stores
although their will be very few for each store, 10-15 at most available
so make sure you get in early
then following that their will be scattered deliveries for them over the course of December , one date will be the 6th so if you miss the 29th launch day, they will have another load coming in the following week :)

also their will be killzone bundles available (very few I might add) but also they are far over priced, I think the standard killzone bundle for the ps4 was priced for 520e
    cheaper to buy separate

but the ps4 will be 399.99

Queue on release day? Argos did tell me they were expecting a 2nd batch from Sony but, ''it hadn't arrived yet.''

Did they tell you what they did with the first batch? they dont take preorders so they should be available day 1 no?

The woman said, ''technically the first batch is spoken for.'' Whatever the hell that means, tightlipped crap.

So you reckon I should queue early on the 29th?
