Browsing public/private paid & free API's for development

I am always on the look out for interesting API's to build even small projects for myself, I have been working on mobile applications for 5 years now and I am looking to expand my portfolio both in mobile applications and with some web stuff over the next year or so.

In doing so I want to be mainly focused on client side design and programming and as such want to be able to find interesting API's to hook into.

So I was wondering if posters on here use certain sites or tools for finding interesting API's to use?

I've started using mashape but was wondering if there are any alternatives that may be better?

Sorry I should have been more clear, I have worked with REST before and know enough about it but I'm looking to see if there are any sites developers use to find out about API's they can use.

For example if I wanted to build an application to show the wait times for attractions in a holiday resort are there any websites developers would use to find out if a public API exists to get the data for this?
