I've watched it a few times but the crowds just put me off with their frantic cheering.
Yanks - great in groups with less than five, then they just go overboard.

I prefer "diner dives and drive ins", they went to Liberty Elm Diner which I'll be heading down to in a while.

Fairly sure Aussie BBQ in Dublin has a challenge I could be wrong though

Yes they do, they have a hot wings challenge where you try to eat 5 chicken wings as quick as possible, i think the best time is two and a half minutes

Do any restaurants in ireland offer similar food challenges or has an boardsie tried a food challenge?

No, over here we tend to pay through the nose for miserly portions. So instead of the challenge being titled Man Vs Food, over here it would be titled Man Trying To Get Enough Food.

You can try it anytime, the 5x5 challenge is
    5 half-pound burgers,
    5 orders of fries,
    5 onion rings,
    5 scoops of coleslaw,
    5 strips of bacon,
5 slices cheddar cheese on a toasted bap with mayo, lettuce , and tomato.

30 minutes to eat it all

35 euro for it, free if you finish, discount for a good effort.
personally love to try it but 35 euro is alot to gamble for dinner

I am a big guy and can eat alot but usually after a portion of wings, 1 half pounder, 1 portion of fries and maybe a desert in scottys I need to lie down for half a day. Food is beautiful but 5x5 sounds impossible.

Extreme gluttony touted as some sort of an achievement while people starve in other parts of the world.
There are lots of causes of famine, a few people eating a pile of cheap meat isn't really one of them.

Most steakhouses in Amsterdam do unlimited ribs. Obviously you pay, 15 euros or something but they just keep bringing rack after rack of spare ribs until you need an ambulance

I was in Captain America's the other day and saw a promotion for their Man vs Food challenge. Can't remember what it entailed but was a lot of food.
