F*ck it, Ireland is a nation which is being run absolutely horrendously (like most alleged "democracies" it must be said) but I'm going to stand and fight for this beautiful country I grew up in rather than denouncing it. Much as one can despise US government policy without being Anti-American, one does not have to denounce the nation itself or its symbols in order to voice one's disgust about how it's run or those responsible for running it.

As long as the tricolour represents my country, then f*ck yeah I'm proud of it.

Aye, im from Northern Ireland but to be honest in an aesthetic way I'm not a fan of the 3 colours type flags. They are all a bit boring, just using different colours.

I like the Brazil flag. Probably from football but they seem to be effortlessly cool.

As a Northern Irish unionist I find it pretty odd that other Irish people refer to my flag still nowadays as the butchers apron. When younger I always saw the tricolour draped across ira mens coffins for example who had just killed numerous innocent men, woman and children in a bomb.

For a while I hated that flag. Then I realised that was the flag of my neighbours. Nothing to do with the ira at all. I think a lot of others on here need to similarly grow up regarding the union flag. Otherwise it just makes them look like weans who shouldn't be allowed internet access.

I think the difference is that the ira use our flag but do not represent it officially, while a lot of bad things were actually done officially in the name of the union flag

    It's alright nothing special.

Would like a flag where people would not be able to write shít on it like " Davy Keogh says Hello ".

Saw one last weekend on Sky Sports with " Everton FC " on it.
    F##k sake

The "Queen of England ruling these shores" would really sort out our financial woes alright.

How can you be proud of something you can't control? Like proud to be Irish? You don't have a choice where your born, we don't have a choice of what the flag is so no I am not proud of it. Do I respect it, yes, do I love Ireland? Yes. Proud? No.

This is a sad thread tbf. It's akin to the SF & Gerry Adams lambasting nonsense of other posters on AH.

This is an incredible country with loads to be proud of. To say otherwise suggests a disconnect with your motherland and that is very sad.

Please Op, don't fall into a feigned PC existence of hating your motherland just because we can't translate our road signs into every language in the world in the hope of being seen to be the bestest best boys in the class.

    Indeed. I concur.

I suppose when you break it right down we are humans so we will have natural affection with which position on this planet we entered existence from. Remember then whether we like it or not we are subjected to an amount of indoctrination, obviously this was and still is a big issue on this island. A reflective Johnny Adair said during his Mcintyre doc that if he was born a bit down the way on the Falls he more than likely would have been an IRA man.

Even somebody as dense as Adair could see how ridiculous the whole situation is when you step back and look at it and gauge the worth of your short life here.

That like saying how can you be proud of yourself? You had no choice in been born, or who you were born too or whether.you were born male or female!

That's life you can't control these things, doesn't mean you can't be proud of them!

I think it's terribly drab. It needs a tiger shooting tommy guns on it, or at least some swear words scrawled on to it, to make it edgy and cool.

    Perhaps "Elmo is a rat"?

They also have vrt and extremely high taxes on diesel.

They don't pay VRT. Even with the sterling conversion it's still better value to buy a car in the uk.

When I look at any flag, I see colours that wave with the wind and do nothing else. When I see good weather of sky-blue, I see a location of Home, Ireland. Who needs a flag when you know where you come from. It's better to have a real good internal feeling of your Island than to preach and whinge about what colour you like.

    Sky-blue all the way...
