Need to ship desktop... and possibly myself back from London. What options?

    Hi there,

I'm moving out of a small ground level flat in SW London. I have a large desktop and monitor which is making things awkward.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who's driving over/taking the ferry. I transported everything by car originally, but that's not an option this time.

Does anyone know what my options would be? If anyone happens to be making the trip or if you know a truck/van that I could travel with I would love to talk further. Obviously you will be reimbursed for your time - can talk about cost/fee etc.

    Thanks so much

    GLS are quite reasonably priced.

You could fit in an a large suitcase and bring it over by either Eurolines or else Sail Rail it over. Parcel Motel with depot collection in the ROI might be a solution also as you might get it shipped cheaply to Parcel Motels warehouse in NI and they'd send it south then.

A cheap flight with the pc and monitor in a checked-in suitcase but well wrapped in towels etc. may also work but you might want to clarify if it would be allowed with the airline first.

    Hi,
I moved back from the UK earlier in the year and used the following website. Couriers / Furniture removes from Ireland will tender for your job and they will compete against each other, so you can wait a few days to see what the offers are.

    www.anyvan.ie

I didnt have too much to move but there was a TV in there, so they do handle delicate items too.

The person I chose has an alias of PRE3 and they were brilliant. They kept me well informed all of dates / times etc.

If you can be flexible about when your stuff is collected & delivered (i.e. you fit into their schedule rather than specifying a specific date/time), then you get even better quotes. Dont fall for their "we only have a limited amount of space left as this van is leaving in 2 days" sort of replies. That is only to get you to jump for their quote, rather than waiting to see what others will offer.

    I hope this helps.

    JT.
