On several occasions, several of my threads or posts on boards have just mysteriously disappeared.

I've never been able to explain it. One of life's little mysteries.

Know how it feels, my threads have about a 90% chance of being locked or deleted. :D

I've never been able to explain it.

I was working in Tuam a few months back and grabbed some lunch in a cafe beside the building I was working in. I was flicking through a tabloid I got that morning and was admiring one page full of Victorias Secret models. They were all good looking, maybe 12 of them in total, but one of them stood out and I checked the caption to see what her name was. It was Erin Heatherton. I had a fleeting thought that it was a nice name and Erin is actually quite rare etc and I hadn't heard it for quite some time.

About 20 seconds later after finishing my sandwich, I went to grab my bottle of Coke before throwing it into the bin. Before I touched it I actually pulled my hand away again and got an eerie feeling.....

I had to take a pic.

Staring at me on the bottle was the name 'Erin'. Below the bottle you will see Erin Heatherton if you look closely.

A name I hadn't seen or heard of in a long time was now staring at me from 2 very random objects.

One I heard of recently, involving an army exercise in Mayo.

The lads set up in a wooded area adjacent to some land and an old stately home, previously owned by a landlord one would say. They heard stories of the place, strange happenings and the like but all passed it off as usual sh/te talk, trying to scare people.

Anyway, that night while the majority were in their sleeping bags getting sleep, those on guard had night vision equipment. One lad swore he could see people moving towards him across the field, thinking it was the "enemy". But they never attacked and then disappeared.

Then a lot of the lads sleeping started to wake and the majority had experienced a nightmare where they were dragged from their sleeping bags screaming. A few freaked our troops in the morning!

A bazillion years ago, I remember there was one particular forested exercise area that was notorious for that. I'm trying to remember which one, but the guards were forever reporting "approaching figures" who never got any closer and then slipped out of sight.

Now, I never saw it myself, but I do remember hearing it back independently from various fresh sections who wouldn't have had a chance to pick up on it from the urban legend mill.

I'm a skeptic, but I do love a good yarn like that. :D

I'm intrested in this kind of effect. I like to call it the "Derren Brown" effect because many of his "tricks" are based on this kind of suggestion.

A couple of years ago, living in Dublin, I was going to a flat-warming of a girl called Marianne. I called into an off-licence and spent a few minutes looking at their (what seemed like hundreds) of bottles of wine to bring as a gift for the party. I eventually settled on one that looked nice (I know very little about wine) and was about the right price.

It was only when I got to Marianne's flat that I saw that the name of the wine was "Chataux Marianne". I genuinely didn't see the name until I got there. I may have scan read the name but it certainly didn't register with me. Of course, then, I made a big deal of pointing out how apt the name of the wine was, etc.

Just the subconcious mind making connections that the concious mind doesn't "see". Very interesting stuff.

A friend of mine used to stay with her aunt in the summer holidays - the aunt's place was quite isolated, down a farm path, with a locked gate fronting onto the road about quarter of a mile away.

One night the aunt was going out somewhere. My friend was about 14 at the time - didn't particularly want to be going off to aul ones social events so said to the aunt that she'd stay at home. That was fine. The aunt told her she'd be back at such a time - what she wanted was for my friend to go down five minutes before she was due back and unlock the front gate for her so she didn't have to get out of the car in the dark and start fiddling with padlocks.

Off went auntie. Friend spent an uneventful evening in the house then set off walking down the path at the appointed time. It was a fine summer night but pitch dark.

She was brought up with a bump when she walked into something lying across the path. She couldn't see it but she could feel it. She said it felt like a huge pig, she could feel the bristles on it, and she felt it must have been black because she couldn't see anything of it even though her eyes had adjusted to the dark. It lay right across the path completely obstructing her way. She tried to move it but it wasn't about to budge so she had no option but to go back to the house.

A while later the aunt came in - she was mad that the gate hadn't been opened. My friend explained about the pig. Surely the aunt had come up against it too? No, the aunt had seen nothing and thought my friend was lying to explain away why she didn't open the gate.

Next day the aunt went over to a nearby cottage where three elderly batchelor brothers lived, all of them well into their 80s. The aunt would bring them a bit of food every day as they were too feeble to do much for themselves.
She let herself in and found a terrible thing.
One of the poor old chaps had got up at some point in the night and fallen across the banked turf fire. He couldn't get himself off it and was burned to death. The other poor old souls were too weak to get their brother off the fire so had to wait there with till someone turned up.

But the strange thing about all this was, my friend's aunt didn't have a huge black pig...so whose was it and where did it come from? And more to the point, where did it go to before the aunt got home?

This story might appear to some like it is made up as the chances of it happening are so astronomical but I can only give my word that it is true. There are witness but none that can back me up on boards.

Me and a few friends, get together regularly (about once a month or so) to play cards. On one occasion, back just after the turn of the millenium, we were playing cards in my friends house, and I was sitting out a hand. There was a reasonable size pot in the middle of £15-£20 most of which was coins, but there were two £5 notes in amongst them. I began to tell a couple of the guys about how I read somewhere that if you have a note that gets ripped that all you need to bring in to the bank to get it replaced was the unique number on the bottom of the notes, and the rest of the note wasn't required.

To demonstrate the numbers, I picked up the two fivers to show how each was different. Before I go on I should explain that the two fivers were in total contrast in terms of condition. One looked like it was just after coming from the bank, whereas the other was frayed and looked like it was in circulation for quiet some time. As I showed them the number, I noticed something astonishing. The serial numbers on the two very contrasting notes were concurrent, so one was printed directly after the other.

Looking at the two notes, it was amazing to think that they were printed at the same time, obviously had two very different routes, before they ended up in the middle of our table in a poker hand. The odds of it happening must be in the trillions. Not really a creepy of unnerving story but one that will stick with me for the rest of my days.

Your brain's going overtime that's all. I've heard gunshots, a sound like an orchestra playing a big chord (like at the end of "A Day in the Life") and most recently a F1 car revving.

It's nice to hear someone else has experienced this as well, scared the **** out of me the first time it happened, I nearly had a heart attack. I heard a bell/alarm going off, the type where the hammer rapidly hits the bell. It sounded like it was actually in my bedroom, it was so loud. I get it every now and then when I haven't had enough sleep or I am really tired. I've also heard a gunshot, two cars colliding at speed, a large glass window being smashed and what sounded like a **** load of metal girders being dropped onto the ground from a large hight. I've heard others as well but I mostly forget because I usually fall asleep after, once my heart has slowed back down again ;)

Not sure if it's the same thing, but a few times in the past when I was exhausted and had had a stressful day, I could hear people calling my name while I was falling to sleep.

When I say 'hear', the voices were always of a variety of people I knew and they were crystal clear, but I was never under the impression I was actually hearing noises in the room. They were just sort of swimming around my head, calling or whispering my name urgently.

It's a really bizarre feeling and lends some insight into how superstitions and paranormal beliefs might have come into being.

Let me start this post by saying that I am not religious at all, I do not believe in any form of afterlife and that my Mam receives terrible abuse from me for visiting psychics / mediums , however there are 3 things that happened to me while living at home that I can not explain. They all happened within a month while I was in my mid 20's.

    * While sleeping one night I was woken up at about 3am by a horrible shrieking womans scream. I sounded like it came from my room. It was definitely not outside the house. I though that maybe it was a dream and I went back to sleep but I spoke to my sister the next morning and she heard it too.

*I used lock my bedroom door from the inside at night to stop my younger sister from coming into my room and waking me up. She was only a toddler. The key to the door was on my bunch of car keys. A pretty big bunch. One night I was woken up by what sounded like somebody slapping the keys from the inside. I got up to look at the keys and they were moving as if they had been hit. Nobody was up or awake at the time.

*The last one is the one that freaked me out the most. While asleep I was woken up by the bed vibrating. It was a very mild vibration but absolutely noticeable. I put my hand on the wooden headboard but it was not vibrating. I actually took the mattress off the bed to see what was causing it but there was nothing on or under the bed that could cause a vibration. When I took the mattress off the bed it stopped.

3 events that I can not understand. My mam thought that it was a spirit trying to get my attention but that it was a friendly one. Jesus I would hate to see an angry one. :D

Yea I hear sounds that are not there when asleep too. Last one was very horrific, heard the dogs downstairs getting a beating (by intruders i assumed) couldn't even move to help them, when I finally got up the house was quiet, dogs where grand.

Just had an experience that definitely belongs in this thread. I'm... going to look into it a little more tomorrow in the cold light of day, but that was a bit of a thrill on a Saturday.
