I was in tesco yesterday, went on a mad one, put too much in and trolley came to 170 euro (no drink involved either in me or the trolley). I got a "price difference" voucher receipt for 76 cents. had to look it up when I got home to see what it was for and led me here..

Vic. Is that not a good result?

No, a result would be that Tesco cop on and REDUCE their prices NOT MATCH THE COMPETITION, with their little stickers that gloat that their price IS THE SAME AS Aldi/Lidl/Supervalu

We don't want the same, we want better !

A good result is price matching on all the items in the trolley of shopping on a price per kg/litre basis but tesco won't do that, instead they match prices on a select few items which may well be chosen for being closest in price to the compared item in aldi/lidl. they match on everyday value items which just dont compare in quality to the same items in aldi/lidl, they only compare maybe 5 or 6 items in a trolley of 60 or 70 items and call it a price promise, what a joke.

    That is false.
Items are compared based on ingredients and quality. Tesco value range is inferior to Aldi/Lidl range.
Tesco have stated clearly that they are comparing 1,400 comparable grocery staples primarily own-brand products.

One of my shops resulted in 2 items cheaper in Aldi

Butter and milk same price. Again most items not compared

1x TESCO SEEDLESS GRAPE SELECTION PACK 500G Tesco: €2.79 Aldi €2.49
    1x T. EDAY VAL S/L CKN BRST FILLETS MED 541G Tesco €5.74 Aldi €5.39

    Same shop compared to Lidl

    GALAXY MILK CHOCOLATE 114G Tesco €0.85 Lidl:1.69
    1xMI WADI SUGAR FREE ORANGE 1L Tesco €1.50 Lidl:€1.99

Both the Miwadi and Galaxy were on special in Tesco

I think you'll probably find that the 1400 compatibles are likely to be 700 lidl and 700 aldi. Not 1400 individual products. IMO

But here is the thing. The Aldi and Lidl range is small. Tesco metro size.

Take away all that hardware from the centre of the shop. Then you are really only dealing with a large Centra sized store.

All the Freezers in Aldi would take up one side of one Isle in a Tesco Extra store. Maybe less.
Where Tesco would have 2 full length Isles with 4 sides.

    1400 products is quite alot.

    Eh
The price promise will apply to around 1,400 comparable grocery staples and will cover around 60% of total sales, according to Tesco.

It turned into a terrific bitchínfest

I desire people to point out what Tesco say is cheaper in Aldi&Lidl, so we can take advantage of the price promise - potentially using coupons and get clubcard points etc etc

Can't use coupons in Aldi so there may be bargains to be had

that's because they just offer low prices with no gimmicks = no inflated prices just so you can offer coupons..

Do you want coupons to spend in Tesco or the cash equivalent to spend where you like?

Just back from a trip to Aldi and Tesco. Was looking for a big bag of spuds.

I'm not a great fan of Rooster potatoes but thought I'd get some for a change.

Tesco: 2 different "brands" of 7.5 kg washed Roosters - one for E6.99 in drab packaging, the other E7.00 in eye-catching packaging. They're probably doing an experiment on consumers here to see which they'll choose with a 1 cent difference and different packaging. That's why loyalty cards are so important to them.

Aldi: 1 "brand" 7.5 kg washed Roosters - E6.00. No nonsense, no loyalty card, no sneaky stuff.

Aldi is 14% cheaper on this one item which is a staple for many people.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone who bought 7.5 kg washed roosters in Tesco lately, has got a E1.00 voucher from the Tesco price comparison thingey at checkout. I'd guess not.

You got ripped off in both.
    You should've bought these ones

You need to hone your bargain skills, I expected better of you!

You can't mash those salad potatoes though as they are too waxy and small. The Tesco ones that are on offer are lovely mashed.

I'm looking forward to the 15c per kilo bags of spuds (and all the other veggie offers) that will inevitably come up next month!

Were those grapes mixed red and green? My most significant saving thusfar was on a pack of green grapes 500G which were 3.49 in Tesco and 1.99 in Lidl (I think, posted about it way back in page 1 or 2).

It's really, really difficult to figure out what they're comparing!!

If those spuds are anything like these short weighed carrots that only weigh 1kg then they will work out at about €10 for 7.5kg

But they are lovely quartered and put into a casserole.

A bit suspect by Aldi calling them new season. The first potatoes of the year around May use to be called new season now every crop and import seems to be marketed as new season. Dept of Agriculture really needs to clarify new season and clamp down on the retailers for the over use of the term.

You did not get my point , if Tesco were price matching Aldi say in butter and pigsback had a coupon for that brand of butter, then you could pick up that butter even cheaper again....hence a bargain

Shopping in Tesco twice in last 2 weeks, 1st shop was €110
and got a coupon for €0.29 cents difference, 2nd time was €100 odd
and got a coupon for 0.17 cents.
    What a joke!

There's no way the same shop in Aldi/Lidli would have been anyway close to that.
Tesco must think their customers are all thick.
Voucher for up to a max of €10 and they get the customer back in the shop to do another shop so nett cost is very little.
I for one, wouldn't bother going back just for that saving.
